I have walked on the wing of Concorde... biggest danger is slipping off due to "adverse camber" towards the tips and leading edges (not to mention depressurised elevons

)!

I understand what you are saying Toby, however I was merely pointing out that the A380 IS a geniune milestone is current aviation terms.
Like you said in your own statement, Boeing have'nt come close since the 1970's for anything like this.
And as for Concorde, well, nothing can or will ever achieve the status or kudos that this aircraft had and still has to this day. :tuttut:

I always like the contempory quote about how much of an achievement Concorde was.
"We had to design something that had never been done before but in order to do so we had to defeat Sir Isaac Newton in two languages"

But is it really?
Let's look at the facts -
Double Deck - Been done. B377, two of the Pan-Am Clippers, and the SR Princess.
800-seat capacity - Been done. XC-99 was tested as a 750-seat airliner during testing and was said to have been able to cary 800+ in an "economy"-type layout.
Million Pound Takeoff weight - Been Done. Not just by the 747, but by the AN-124, AN-225, C-5B, and several others.
What is it really that the A380 is giving us that hasn't been done before?
In fact, the only thing that the A380 can really claim for "achievements" are in a very specific category - Passenger Jet Aircraft. But if you listen to Airbus's PR department, you'd think that it's broken records of some sort in every category and in the absolute category. That's just not true. It's an evolutionary step on every level, not a major milestone.

Fully intergrated fly by wire on an aircraft of that size
