I think Ballykelly's runway is at least the same size, if not bigger than Derry's where the aircraft was
scheduled to go to. I think the bigger problem would be making the disused runway suitable for the departure (ie, sweeping it!)

Ah. Thats cleared that up. Good point matey. Thanks

The thrust reversers probably started that job on landing I would have thought

Interesting to note that a railway line runways across the end of the main runway at Ballykelly. I think in operational days there was some sort of signal / control tower to halt aircraft or trains as necessary but presumably thats long gone now?

CB, and to think I could have been there with you!
But I do have to correct you on the issue of it being the first Airbus. The other night whilst coming into LCY I clearly clocked an A320 of Aer Lingus parked up, along with the other usual traffic.
This make me think that:-
A - They test flew an A320 before the A318.
B - My afcad is stuffed up!

Shame you weren't mate.... people kept asking me if I was a pilot as I was still in my work uniform :-$
Rgds the A320 at LCY, and it being as real as it gets, I'd go with option A.
