The new TrackIR4 Pro costs around £130GBP which seems a lot of money compared to the actual cost of the game which you can now pick up for £20 or so. I would suggest you have a look in some of the other forums and read the whole thread. One particularly memorable one starts with a sceptic being so converted once he had tried it that he is now a real pain in the ....

Honestly though, if you are into the big civvy heavies then it's probably not for you. If you fly any other small aircraft with VC then it will transcend between a game and a better all round experience. Flying the Mach loop last night in a DSB Hawk with my newly acquired Saitek X-52 Flight Control System, TrackIR4 Pro, VFR Photographic Scenery and VFR Terrain was simply wonderful - although a decent slug of Glenmoray 16 Year Old Single Malt certainly helped things along

Hi Al/Sean,

Sri.. there's been a sudden rush of activity on this thread I've had to catch up on.

Cost.. £109.95inc from RC Simulations ( http://www.rc-simulations.co.uk ). If you fancy a slightly cheaper alternative, you can buy TrackIR3 and the Vector Expansion software for slightly less though you don't get quite the same degree of movement (Tir3 gives 30deg and Tir4 40deg).

It is, in my humble opinion an expensive toy and I will not get the use out of it as many will or do. It works very well with certain aircraft and for certain types of flying. If you want to pretend you're a display pilot in an old Warbird or if you are strictly a VFR man doing short hops.. it really is a worthwhile bit of kit. If on the other hand you regularly do Hurn to Turin in the One-Eleven or cross the pond in the VC10, then you'll only find it of use.. real use at the begining and end of your flight. I suppose that a useful aspect is that you can disable it at any point in your flight and re-enable it at will.

I've still not ventured into the various setup parameters that can be changed so it's till very much straight out of the box for me but I'm reasonably happy with how it performs 'as is' so will leave well alone.

If you think VC's are great, then you probably already have a Tir as without one, VC's are still bloody horrible places to be in. To put it another way, if don't have a Tir and you STILL think VC's are great.. then your experience will be greatly increased by getting one. I remain very much a 2D man, despite all the fun and games you can have with one of these things and I can't see that changing
