Dumb meterological question - they appear to be islands - but they have
lenticulars forming over them which is as Im taught signifies mountain wave
so are they islands or mountains sticking out of stratus deck???

Leif
Lenticulars are formed by rising air flowing over an obstruction (mountain). The air then has to fill the pressure gap on the other side of the obstruction and so descends. This starts off a wave pattern that can be enhanced or cancelled depending on further obstacles downwind. Once the oscillation starts it takes many miles to smooth out - sometimes hundreds. In this case the islands may be enhancing the wave but probably have nothing to do with it at all.
