Re: Spooky..
Mine did a huge update yesterday, which I assume was a new build of Win10. It's the full blown Win10 Home BTW. At the moment I've only got 2.7gb free. The update copied the old Windows installation to a "windows.old" folder which is taking up around 10gb of space. (It says the size of the folder is 10.6gb, but the size on disk is 7.1gb. Compressed, maybe.
) Should be able to delete that if needed.

Re: Spooky..
Hello mate
Thanks for that. Yes.. the version I had on the 1010L was the full Win10 Home. The 'mobile' bits were MS Office.. these instead of Office365. The chap at Linx suggested that this update was the 'November' build. Here's the content of his email minus 2 attachments (jpgs)..
Good afternoon David,
When you upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, or Windows 10 to the new November update of Windows 10, called Build 1511, then there are some options to revert which we would suggest being attempted.
From Windows go Start > Settings > Update & Security > Recovery
Then depending on what version of Windows you had originally they will see different options:
• On a device that was originally Windows 8.1 there should be an option based on the screenshot attached labelled “Go back to Windows 8.1” - (GoBackOptions_win81_win10.png)
• On a device that was originally Windows 10 there should be an option based on the screenshot attached labelled “Go back to an earlier build” - (GoBackOptions_win10_B1511.png).
This is the easiest method to restore the machine back to the previous version of Windows. These options are only available for 30 days, after which the backup files from the upgrade are deleted to free up space.
If the upgrade was attempted and the machine ran out of power, then it will probably break the tablet and they won’t be able to get back into Windows.
If this is the case, we can send out recovery media on USB stick, which has fixed pretty much most of the customers who have had this issue.
Please advise by return if this resolves the issue?
He obviously hadn't grasped the thrust of my enquiry though what he's said has been useful. With a 16gb(14gb) unit.. no new load would be possible so.. as I see it.. you'd be stuck with an old load for the life of the machine with windows doing it's best to install it. Not a happy situation
What your drive is reading seems reasonable. I'm guessing a 32gb drive will show something around 28gb formatted so deleting the Win.old will give you somewhere around 12gb left.. all things considered. I still wonder at how long it will be before the incremental updates have an adverse effect though if this is a full new build.. I'm guessing the incremental updates will go along with Win.old. although ultimately.. the OS itself will undoubtedly grow with each build.
Thanks Dave.. you've been a great help. I think I'll add the 1010B to basket
