How badly do I need an iPhone?

I mourn the demise of the Telegram. It is just not the same at a wedding reading out texts, twitters or e-mails. There used to be an art in being economic with words but still getting the message across.
I also mourn the loss of my old ZX Spectrum, but that is another discussion.

Not sure Joe. I only use a couple of "Apps". I know there is a Skype app and I'm pretty sure their is a Jabber client. I get unlimited calls and texts to all uk mobiles and landlines in my bundle (£20 per month) so don't really need voip. There's a WhatsApp thing too,but not sure if that does Voip.

I've tried a few on ,my Motorola Triumph, but unless there is good wifi bandwidth, they don't perform without some frustration.
The least troublesome is skype,
