World of AI works. I have all of my AI objects in a custom folder in SimObjects so simply copied these over to an identical folder in P3D plus the relevant traffic files. I always convert the supplied WoAI traffic files to FSX format in AI Flight Planner before use and these versions carried over fine. I didn't use the WoAI installer but as mine points to a non-standard FSX folder anyway, I expect the same approach would work for P3D.

Thanks for that Ade, I did the same think with WOAI in FSX so I was hoping this would work in LMP. I'll give mine a go tonight :)

Good luck Ben. I was very happy with the results I got for WoAI at Heathrow.

Has anyone found a way to disable the green scrolling ATIS banner? I like to have my ATIS information audio only, which is done in FSX by unticking all the ATC options apart from "use a pilot voice". This setting doesn't seem to "stick" in P3D though. The only way I can get rid of it is by tuning to a different frequency, which obviously isn't ideal.

Thanks,

Ade

Thanks for the Heads up on this chaps, I now have it downloaded and installed.
I'm currently running it with no add-ons, the only change I've made is to set it up in nVidea Inspector as I had FSX.
I have a very similar set up to Ade i.e

Intel Core i7 920 D0 Stepping 2.66GHz (overclocked to 3.8GHz) 64-bit CPU
Asus P6TD Delux Intel X58 PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
Corsair XMS3 6Gb (3x2Gb) DDR3 RAM
Corsair HX 1000W PSU
KFA2 GeForce 580GTX 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (overclocked Core 835MHz, Shader 1670MHz, Memory Clock 2100MHz)
Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Lockheed Martin PREPAR3D 1.3

So hopefully, I'll get similar results, although I still do see the odd stutter.
I would like to install REX in order to get real time weather.
I've been enjoying Lockheeds aircraft that come as default, but have yet to try going underwater in the sub.
I'll add any info to the thread, as I install further add ons.

Regards

Kevin

Hi Kevin,

It'll be very interesting to see your results. I've got all the Scenery sliders right except mesh which is set to 2m. The new P3D maximums are higher than FSX so this does overstress my machine though. On the P3D default flight, I'll get about 35-40 on the runway up to take off, then when looking back at the airport it'll drop down to about 22-25 (still perfectly usable though given P3D's much smoother performance). Over the city it returns to 35-40 and out across the water would be a solid 40+ up to 60. I get microstutters with the Scenery Complexity and Autogen Density maxed at Extremely Dense over very complex scenery such as the default city but even this is less distracting than in FSX. Only major issue for me is that I get a blue screen of death after about 20 minutes flying with these settings, especially if I'm in a fast plane. I expect once I move over to P3D fully, I'll pull the sliders back a notch which should prevent this. Overall though, P3D is very stable I find.

Haven't tried it myself yet, but REX goes straight in without problems apparently and REX Essential will support P3D natively. The sub is fun but rather basic so far. It shows huge potential though. I noticed on my last visit that there's some underwater scenery for Lake Ontario in the P3D Community Downloads section.

Good luck,

Ade

Been playing / fiddling for a few days now. I've got my AI , most scenery & some addon aircraft installed, so it's now looking pretty much as my FSX installation.

Frames rates seem to be around the same, with similar settings. I've turned off bathymetry, & turned down the water reflection as that was giving me a significant frame rate hit.

I'm getting the odd stutter & occasional pause, but less than in FSX, & things are generally smoother.

Loading times seem around the same, although as P3d goes straight into a flight rather than a UI screen it's hard to tell exactly, but I don't think there's much in it.
Would be nice to have a UI, I think one is in the pipeline for a future update, but as P3d is aimed at a professional sim environment, rather than home PC use it may not be high on their priority list. There is an (unofficial) external prog available in the P3d forums which allows you to select your loading flight, aircraft, weather etc, before starting P3d, but I found it crashed on me, and there are reports of it not setting the weather correctly. This may be due to a bug in P3d as custom setting the weather only works if you do it in "advanced" mode.

I like the aircraft selection screen, especially the use of "favourites" which makes it easier to get to your favourite aircraft.

Tried "Air Traffic FX" with P3d, and that worked fine without any messing around, although P3d did crash after I over-stressed the aircraft & the sim restarted with AirTrafficFx running.

Track IR does not work. There is a work around using "EZdok camera addon" apparently, but as I don't have it, I can't comment on it.

AI set up with VFR flight plans don't work, which is a bit of a bugger.

There are some things I prefer in FSX, and some where P3d is better.

I don't think it's quite ready to replace FSX yet. Maybe in a couple of updates time, we'll see ;)

Hi Ade

I replicated your settings as close as possible, as well as the following -

Wideview OFF (I have a widescreen monitor, but find I get a smoother sim with this off especially when panning)
Bathymetry OFF
Ground Scenery Shadows OFF
Traffic DEFAULT
Weather DEFAULT
Lens Flare OFF
Lightbloom OFF

Observed the following -

Runway 25-33 (occasional 18 - 40) FPS
Looking Back 24-37 FPS
City 25-35 FPS
Over Water 40-60 (occasionally 70 and even saw an 80) FPS

Locking framerate at 45 over water, gave a solid 45 FPS.

Using Unlimited, I get quite a variation in FPS but this is better than FSX, which stutters so badly at unlimited that it is unflyable.
My usual choice is to set to unlimited and then use an external frame rate limiter set at 30.

Hope this is of interest.

Regards

Kevin

Hi Chaps,

Been looking through the cfg file tonight and noticed...

Code: Select all

[TrafficManager]
AirlineDensity=28
GADensity=27
FreewayDensity=9
ShipsAndFerriesDensity=88
LeisureBoatsDensity=13
IFROnly=-1
I'm wondering if the IFROnly is what is disabling VFR AI?

Could well be, good spot Ben.

More experimenting I think.. :cpu:

Got Accu-feel working. Not tried any other A2A products yet apart from the B-17, which seems to work except for crew sounds. Only tried copying the files accross from FSX, so it may need a "proper" install.
All the Captian Sim I've tried stuff seems OK (not checked in depth though).
No go with the VRS Superbug, incorrect Simconnect version error. :(

No go with the VRS Superbug, incorrect Simconnect version error.
Interesting, I thought that wasn't supposed to happen i.e. as long as the sim had a newer version of SimConnect than the one programmed for it should work.
I wonder if VRS included a check that isn't allowing for a newer version?
