My Italian wife would be horrified, wine with pizza is a definite no no.Personally I'd go for a Dolcetto D'Asti with a lighter meal or for something more robust a Nebbiolo. Not being a bachelor it makes sense to keep to wines from the region where my wife comes from. Her father used to make Barbera, Grignolino and a little Dolcetto.
Beer with pizza.
Nowadays I rarely drink alcohol if I'm not eating at the same time.
