And it cost me $40NZD to be told that.

Our local place charges £45 min...the cheapest place to reload windows off an external drive was £120, they told me if it could have been reloaded off the CD it would only be £60...but if that had ben the case I would have done it myself

What they are up to is simply making it effectively cheaper to buy new stuff.

On my last PC I had spent over £700 and it was still not working properly.

They can be contrary beasts at times. Just not sure what I will do now that I don't have a PC to use FS on.

If you could have done with an upgrade that's the way to go

The reason I replaced in the end was there seemed no more point in trowing money into something that's future could not be guaranteed.

At least going new has that.

If it's just you Mobo that needs replacing then perhaps that's all you do need.

I think the best thing is to decide what you really need...how much you can afford and take if from there. It could be that your spec requirement couldn't be met by your current PC even if it was repaired.

There are plenty of guys here that know what they are talking about...some work in IT for a living.

I will probably get a complete new PC. Probably save me more money in the long term.

Yep That's what I was meaning in the post above.

If I do go for a new machine, it must have Windows 7.
