Tks for that.. I can start breathing again now I'm always a bit warey of recommending something (software like this) in case it all goes wrong. Glad you've found a good speed increase and the bloatware that is IE8 will be left alone ;-) I've been onto a lot of sites today checking compliancy and they've all worked just fine.. fast too

I can highly recommend the English dictionary (which highlights spelling mistakes as you type) and I would be lost without it and it comes in various 'flavours' too for the colonies.

You can also change the way FF looks by adding different 'themes' . I have been using this one for over a year now and really like it, in fact I use the same theme in Thunderbird the mail and news reader.....

Addons let you customise all sorts of things that can be useful.

Here`s one IE View that gives you a single button press to open the page you`re on in IE if you find that particular page doesn`t work with Firefox.

Saves all that messing about with URLs to get .com, .org, .net, .ca, .co.uk or whatever I want to set up.

simply type the core element of the URL like CBFSIM and hit your key combination to get the full URL.

All the favourable comments so far have made me wish to try out Firefox so from which safe site may one download this program?

I am at present running IE8! I'm not entirely happy with IE8 at present.

I've had both IE and FF installed for years. I've had issues (notably with IE7 when it first came out) - and it is still IE7 on this PC - but I don't see a great difference in browsing speed between either and if I'm honest FF seems a little slower on image or graphically intense sights (at least to load images up). I suppose it just depends what the individual machine is like. Personally the 'save' function is what swings me to Firefox in that I can restore a session, so all my usual haunts are ready to roll when I switch on. Rather than have umpteen tabs open if there's something I want to quickly check or do, I usually open IE below FF and use that at the same time. I'm just wary of installing major updates to the likes of IE before they've 'matured'.

Just for info...I have a Logitek Laser Mouse and Keyboard and found that the "Forward" and "Back" browsing buttons no longer work with Firefox...I sorted it and just in case someone else has the problem, here is the solution:-

This solution applies to the following platforms:
Windows Vista
Windows XP
Windows 2000

Logitech SetPoint Software

1. Right click on the Logitech Logo Icon in the System Tray and select "Mouse and Keyboard Settings".
2. Click on the "My Mouse" tab; your pointing device should be shown. If you have more that one mouse connected, select the mouse you wish to program by clicking on the "Select Mouse" drop down menu.
3. Click on the Forward button under the "Select Button" menu.
4. Click on the bullet next to the "Keystroke Assignment" in the "Select Task" menu; this will open a "Specify Keystroke" field.
5. Click your mouse cursor on this field and a flashing text cursor should appear.
6. Press the ALT key and the right arrow key at the same time so the Keystroke field reads "ALT+right arrow".
7. Click the "Apply" button to save your changes.
8. Repeat steps 3-6 for the Back button, except press the ALT key and the left arrow at the same time so the Keystroke field reads "ALT+left arrow".
9. Click the "Apply" button to save your changes.
10. Click on the "OK" button to close the SetPoint software.

You should now be able to use your Forward and Back buttons in Firefox and Mozilla :flying:
