A great shame :-(

All I can say is I hope Dave will be able to start afresh sometime after a well earned break.

The moaners will moan no mater what....unfortunately there are a few who feel the have a right to perfect freeware, made of coarse in less than a week and these folk do great harm to the hobby.

If any of theses moaners are reading this...may I suggest you grow up and as mentioned many times above, learn how to do it yourself.

For now...thanks UKMIL for what you have given us

Garry

Hi,

From the horses mouth so to speak, me.

Myself and 2 other scenery designers had simply decided to leave and try something a little different under our own steam, 2 of us had been at ukmil for 2 year and felt it was time to leave ukmil which (as far as the scenery section goes) was still in good hands with the remaining 3 designer, Keith (Cranwell), Phil (honnington) and Paul (who was in the process of Akrotiri).

After much umming and aring on my part (3 weeks to be exact) I decide yes it times to go, we written a lengthy announcement which can be seen on the UKAR forum, but even before we got change to see any replies the site was shut down without so much as a thank you from the web owner for the 2 years in time and thousands of hours we put into the site. It seems even when you leave on good terms its still not good enough?

As I said on other forums we refute 100% the rumour it was closed because we left, that the proverbial dog's. Just seems to be the easiest people to blame. As far as we where concerned UKMIL was far strong enough to keep going with only 3 of the 12 staff leaving.

As a scenery developer there I know I never had any bitchy people at ukmil, ukmilers where on the whole a very nice bunch of people who give us scenery designers nothing but praise, those who did give constructive criticism, there comments where taken on board and dealt with accordingly, not that there was many.

The current message on ukmil shows me that there is only one person with problems on the site and unfortunately I feel he's jumped before he's thought about the consequences. Very selfish?

I feel for all ukmil members and club members. Fortuanalty we where not linked with any other part of ukmil except the scenery part.

I'm glad to be out of there to be honest, true colours shine though eventually...its a really sad end to a good website.

On a more positive note our scenery development will continue but else where so all is not lost

Stevo ;)

I know this isn't the right place to ask this question, but it's the only place that I've seen the matter discussed. What happens to people like myself, who are "Members" and have paid a subscription fee?

:'(

Thats it I'd guess. I can see anyone getting any money out of it. I'd just chalk it up to bad experience. Not so much an issue for me, but I feel sorry for anyone who signed up recently.

i was very sad to read of the closure of the UKmil website. Some excellent work was produced with many 'inservice aircraft' being made available. I much enjoyed the scenery, especially Cranwell with the College. Wonderful to simulate flying over the 'Orange' in the correct types of aircraft for different periods in history.

The site was very comprehensive and made USAF acft and colourschemes easily available to the many UK simmers using that website.

Alas!No more at present. But perhaps?

People build freeware because they want to, if anybody wants to continue on thier own, I cannot see much of a problem.

I have never been a UKMIL fan (but everything on the site was 100 times better than anything I could do, so I have never said anything bad about them....as far as I can remember), but hopefully it will ride again in some shape or form soon.

I think I need to find someone and get permission to carry the remaining UKmil stuff at the pond , so it doesnt just disappear into the either - like many things its too good to lose. I have to agree with Ben - I sit and watch the amount of work people put into projects (both here and next door at the pond) actually not just work , but dedication , and then
happily give it away for free. I am totally amazed that there are some ungrateful burkes out there who have nothing better to do than pick holes in peoples work.

I will miss the good folks at UKMil and will as I say put their stuff up on the Pond for all .
