Hopefully it stays Gents, but if it happens to stay here for awhile
May it be a object that vulcanizes friendships.
And not something that stirs anger.
Long may it fly.

.............you may call me a b@2t@rd for the pun
... but that was a good one. :dancer:

I doubt that would be the case Joe

Reading back through the thread, I can't see anything 'anti' US. As I said.. it's not the fact it may go there.. it's the fact that it may leave HERE!! I suppose you gotta live on this little rock to appreciate the feeling toward the Vulcan ;-)

Personally.. while the 'if it has to go there to fly (be that anywhere)' comment is very noble, I'd sooner it stay here and not fly. At least folk can still jump in a car and go to see it rather than see shots of it flying somewhere else in the world and feel bitter about it. ;-)

Dave, if you were an eccentric Lord, you could buy it, whine to the Govt you were a bit strapped, and might have to sell it abroad.....

Oopps - hold on - it's only paintings we do that with ....

While I don't think it appropriate to put a Vulcan bomber in the same category as one of the great 'Masters'.. I'm a bit of a philistine when it comes to so called 'Works of Art', many of which look like they've been done by a 3-year-old hyper on 'E' numbers and as such, wouldn't mind if they were displayed in London or Cairo. Asking for millions just to keep one in the country is ludicrous

Really Dave? (I know you put a ;-) on it, but I sense you're serious!).

I'd really love it to fly here*, and since Beardy has signed the petition, I don't see why he doesn't dip into his very deep pockets and cough up. If the funding isn't forthcoming, I'd like to see it fly somewhere else, rather than be grounded here. After all, there's nothing to keep one's hopes up like the Lightnings at Thunder City!

Oh yes James.. given the option, I'd much prefer for it to stay here and fly. At least I might get to see it fly!! Point is.. the Vulcan project was funded here by not only individuals but the lottery and a very large sum of money it was too. What chance would any other project have of getting lottery funding if a year down the line.. it runs into financial difficulty and has to be sold to fly abroad. There are already a good many folk out there saying 'I told you so' and the surgeon is yet to presume the patient dead :worried: Should Mr Branson dig into those silk lined pockets and pull forth a huge wodge of dosh.. then sobeit.. even if it meant that lovely Virgin girl in the swimming costume had to appear on the fuse ;-)

I agree Dave. I must admit that I play the lottery now and again. I haven't won anything substantial as yet (i.e. more than £10!). For all the billions of lottery money that have been spent, I'm quite happy that a (relatively) small amount went to the Vulcan, even if it never displays again in this country. I personally have seen little other benefit from lottery money!

The RAF dumped it because it was due a major service. Now that the expensive work has been done, it would be nice if they would take it back again now (for the nation), but I don't suppose that will happen.

The few Americans I have met in this country have always been polite and extremely interested in our history and way of life, one even said that they have not known so much politeness shown to them!!

I have never been across the 'Pond' but some of my friends have and all said 'you must go' for they were always treated well and welcomed wherever they went.

If the Americans can afford to maintain her in flying condition and have the technical knowledge to keep the Vulcan in the air then so be it, rather that than see the scrap merchants blow-torch getting to work.

Nigel.
OFFTOPIC

Airboatr: You must be a night owl like me! Keith didn't plan on playing any music, btw. :)

Nigel The First: When I took my daughter "home" to London for her first visit a few years ago she was amazed at how polite everyone was. We walked down a very crowded Oxford Street and anyone that even slightly brushed you said "sorry". Although this varies by region, many Americans are not as polite as the Brits and I think that is some of the reason for the brash impression that is sometimes conveyed.

I kid a lot about the Colonials but Americans are wam hearted and welcoming and they have never met a stranger. It is very easy to make friends here. However, people will say "stop by anytime" and they probably would be mortfied if you did. I think friends in the UK are harder to make, but they do turn out to be true friends. There are a myriad of cultural differences between the two countries, but there are even more similarities. America really is a great country but I am still very proud of my British heritage.

if e ain't coming to play, then tell him not to bother... unless he wants to go for a airboat ride.
for petes sake :worried:

if the explination will be accepted: as convesation and not an attempt to sway

I've met people from every country religion creed almost , whatever, and in the mix I meet good and bad
not to say that the good ones don't do bad things or that the good are all good, the bad all bad or can't do good acts

a poor homeless man steals bread becasue he's poor , destitute, he's not proud of it , knows he didn't get one over on someone
because he knows the guy he looks at in the mirror at night , he broke trust against his fellow human being ,
he wouldn't dare boast, to another what he (on the surface) got away with.

but there are people that do. even kill someone for ten bucks. and laugh
they just don't think right,, like.... bent, in the head or something< ( not that bent  )

the maddoff's.... starts a investment firm , and has for years and years made a way
for many with out , get on the right road in life, some of the largest charities in the world funded programs with ill gotten gain,
so in the end, what good was it really? yes.....many did benefit, but in the end 50 billion dollars went POOF! gone,
truthfully it was never there was it, just a bunch of red ink on paper,
and this guy.... was so good, that he was every bodies money god, they had to beg to see him,
But we know now he wasn't anything more than a liar., well a lot more really.... I mean this guy has a serious case of "sociopath"
is that an American trait? .. it's world renown. Been going on for thousands of years way way long before the
Indians got in the way of those who set sea and found this place.

some who came here,... went through hard times , the Indians , as much as I've studied, heard (from many sides of the story)
saw a "man" in need and met the need , then there were others who wanted and loosed every trick in the book
to cheat them out of what they wanted or needed, and if it meant killing to get it . so be it. we can't stop progress now can we,

I have no illusion that understanding why people act the way they act will fix anything
the "world" is gonna keep beating that drum till Kingdom comes.
so when I see those who cheat to make a name for themselves or get what they want for the sake of having it.
and they think they are going to get away with it.. I just kind of think of them as a gnat that lands on a freshly painted hood
(Bonnet.. as some think it should be called) ;-) and watch them spin around and around until they die
then get the paint thinner, wash up the mess , and make a better filter system to keep it from happening again.
what else can be done.... :dunno:

I know that while most agree, some will still hold on to prejudice and say if they come from "there" they ain't no good
I meet them where ever I go. but I hold out for hope and give the guy a break.
Like I said, it's just my view point, but studying peoples and cultures , history , it just the same o same o just
a different set of sparkling teeth with a slightly different spin on the age ol ritual of getting what , one wants

ok i'm finnished....
I sure hope the Vulcan stays , it means a lot to you all so may all things go well to make that happen.
:prayer:

PS I din't start the crap and I can't fix it , I wasn't born untill 1962 so , ...... I really have no answers just the obsevation of what passes before my eyes
........
what I know , I know, , it's in the pudding. So, I just chew on the meat and spit out the bones
Thats part of the process you know.....besides, If you dont eat your meat you cant have any pudding ?
how can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat?!!!

....fades to add another brick in the wall.
