Yeah why do they fly them in pairs do they do that with the Tristars?
Happy New Year James
One of the guys has already mentioned why the '10s' do it if you scroll back a few posts ;-) All the RAF 10's have a permanently fitted receiving probe.. not all the RAF Tristars do. The max fuel that can be carried by a VC10(K3) is around 73tonnes and a K4 (no internal tanks) is 68tonnes (C1K a little more at 69.. Plonk this against a Tristar which with internal tanks fitted can carry 139.7tonnes.. you'll see that the necessity for a Tristar to receive fuel is a lot less than a VC10 ;-)

You know..... there have been some realy terrible aviation themed movies over the years... but I have thought for a long time that AAR would make a good subject for many reasons..... How about 'Service stations in the sky' with differing operatiors using unethical means to get their fuel sold? or some sort of Del Boy character pilot.... (thats' not aimed at anyone in particular)... seriously, I think perhaps in these times certain types of aviation (fictional) action may be off-limit, but it's good to imagine........ :drinkers:

CBFS vs. 101 Sqn?
VC10s at 10 paces?
Don't tempt them. Tonks and HC will show them how its done by flying the formation inverted in the sim.
Although, I still want to see a probe-equipped receiver try to tank inverted just once. Can't do it with a boom for obvious reasons, but there's no reason a Tornado, Eurofighter, or Super Bug (F/A-18 Super Hornet) couldn't do it.
