Pity they didn't re-engine it with Tay's as it'd have out done the 146 in just about every area and would've still been flying today. That said.. RR wouldn't release the Tay for it and in their wisdom, BAC/BAE saw more production life for the workforce in advancing with the 146.
Be nice to have a 1-11 800 to have a go at. MD80 size with a pair of cropped fan RB211s on the back end!
I remember being on the Jump seat of 'ZUK coming out of Guernsey. RTOW was 39013 and our loadsheet weight was 39000 dead. The greenhouse glaziers must a have had a real boom! We used just about every inch of the runway! Happy days

I'm not saying we were close to the end of the runway but as we rotated, I lifted my feet up! Felt like the nose gear lifted, crossed the end of the runway and then the mains unstuck. I remember well the first officers calls "passing 100kts......V1..Rotate(has a crafty look up)...Oh! S**t!". Skipper on way back to SOU said "If that f***ing b**ch in commercial sells another one of these, she can sit on the jumpseat and have the c**p scared out of her too!"

Long after my Dan Dare Daze were over - I revisited the 1-11 -- A Florida Express one going from the 'other' Birmingham to Orlando on a hot summer day
The cabin was full so I had to ride the jumpseat -- when we turned onto the runway the OAT was +38 --------We got a really good look at the Foundries
at the west end of the runway (taking off to the east your climb limited by terrain) -- oh yes 06-24 at KBHM is 12000 foot long
