Sorry to have confused you Peter, probably just thinking abut Tusker put me nut in a whirl. As I recall, it had the same effect when I drank it , in fact I sometimes had to leave a session whilst I could still remember which end of the car to get in.

It was the same brew Peter, they just had to re-name it - I think someone in Kenya spat their dummy out and invoked copyright after one of the many tiffs.

Leif...Can't remember when I took that picture but from my Logbook it has to be July 3rd 1959 as that is the only time I was at Lusaka with that Braun Paxette camera...I was flying Venom FB4 WR528 at the time. I guess that was my last visit to Lusaka...My very first visit there was in 1953 and at that time all the white people seemed to be living in caravans, there was only one street with duqas and huts and they were just finishing the building of the first hotel. Can't now remember the name of the hotel but of course it looked massive then and stood out as there were no buildings around it (possibly called The Ridgeway)...By the time I next saw it, I had to search because it seemed to have shrunk into obscurity, surrounded by higher buildings :flying:

On my screen I can see that Viscount has Central African Airways on its side.

The Ridgeway is or was (in the late 70s) still there , funny it didnt look that big

Lord I wish I had your memory for detail, I was lucky to remember the lager had the word Castle in it.
and some of the places we visited in those days are total blurs, My log book says I visited Blantyre three or
four times and night stopped there , but Im damned if I can recall anything

Carlsberg etc. tends to have that effect Leif. I shouls know, downed several gallons in the Limbe Country Club just up the road from Blantyre.

You must've had the infamous Chairmans ESB in Uganda? Mucho better than Castle.

I had no idea what ESB stood for until I tried to walk away from the bar on my first night in Entebbe

Sorry my first outing with Castle involved a wedding somewhere southwest of Ndola ALOT of Castle and a hilarious
piece of dialogue between two very Sh*tfaced Loadmasters

Scene sitting on beer crates outside of a village hall type building with corrugated iron roof
two slightly disheveled young men

LM1 - Do you know where we are?
Lm2 - Zambia?
LM1 - NO...where we really are?
LM2 - close to Ndola?
Lm1 - NO! exactly where we are?
LM2 - (thinking very hard) No, No Idea
LM1 - how many people do you think there are at this party?
LM2 - dunno, lots, 300 maybe?

suffice to say we both woke up in the bunks in the back of VP , wallets , watches and jewels all intact
it was a hell of a night
