My wife and I always buy an "Octopus" card on arrival at CLK...At the Octopus Kiosk we also hand in our old ones kept from last time. They knock off the price of the new Octopus any remaining credit on the old one. The Octopus is used all over the place...You just swipe it over the machine on the Tramcar or the Peak Railway or whatever and it just docks the fare off the credit on your Octopus electronically. Wonderful system!
Anyway, my Octopus card is green and has the magic word "Elder" on the bottom right corner...The Star Ferry terminals have a separate passageway, down to boarding, for Elders and I go down that passageway and just leave the "Octopus" in my wallet. My wife has to go down the normal passageways and swipe her "Octopus" at the turnstile.
So my status symbol is simply AGE...which is revered in China

I thought I would spend a pleasant evening watching the Traffic landing off the Checker Board approach...
The sequence of pictures can be seen here:-

Thanks for looking :flying:

Ian,
Not sure about FS9 but with the FSX version the installer gives you the option not to have autogen trees, it's about the only thing I deselected from the installer!
99% sure I've screamed past at least one Star Ferry at low level but it was dusk so I'm not completely certain!

Oh! Is that all! I mustn't be far off an entitlement for one of those. I can feel a HKG trip coming on so I'll see if I'm venerable enough

After all, I've got free air travel, free train travel, a bus pass, a bike and a car - it's the only thing missing
Great sequence of AI spotting shots, Peter. I usually do that with the Mitsubishi Shogun parked just where little bandit is. I spend as much time watching as flying! I was checking the FlyTampa forum for any mention of trees and you may be interested in this post by Jim Vile who has compiled the approach for FlyTampa. It was in a thread about whether it was possible to force the closure of Rwy 31 but went off into the random landings of AI traffic. Apparently, Jim could have programmed the AI to land tidily but chose to leave it loose so that they all behaved differently as in real life - to make spotting more interesting! Here's what he said:

I could tighten the AI Approach code so most all the AI fly a near perfect approach but that is not realistic. Instead, I loosen the varients and force the AI to fly the Plane's .air and .cfg which makes for a more interesting approach.
The User plane should be the one that can fly the approach consistantly nailing the main gear each time on the center line and at the touchdown bars. Now the user Pilot can watch those AI Pilots struggle with the approach as in real world. Some AI pilots even fly to the left of the checkerboard to give them a little more final to RWY 13 but that is in some cases still not enough.
Give the AI Pilot some stiff Crosswinds and they will scrape wingtips and engines trying to set the mains down on the runway. Reminds me of that one video where the B747 touches down almost sideways. Thankgoodness for rudder input because that Pilots feet was dancing on the pedals even after touchdown.
So next time try it with a strong crosswind and make them work for their living
DaveB - glad you got away with your bad behaviour in HKG! I know what you sailors were like. British aircrew had honorary membership of three important clubs in the colony. The Mariner's Club (Merchant) in Kowloon, The China Fleet Club (RN) in Wanchai and of course the Royal Yacht Club in Causeway Bay (but I don't think
real sailors were allowed in there!

). We also flew to Bandar Seri Begawan (capital of Brunei) for a while and I can confirm that there is
almost nothing there. In the only hotel, we asked for ice on room service and two waiters brought up a solid block about a foot square! We did find a restaurant which was across a lake in a village on stilts but I don't remember much else because I was in the same state as you!
SkippyBing - excellent suggestion! There may indeed be that installation option. I'm just between work and bed at the mo but I'll re-run the installer in the morning. Fingers crossed!
Cheers guys
Ian

Sadly not :-( but thanks for the idea!
For the first time, I feel like a second class citizen with FS9

But never mind, trees are good for the planet, right?

Ian,
I just leave it on Real Weather with 15 min update...That seems to provide plenty of challenge
I'm not sure if you are looking at it in FS9 or FSX, but in FS9 I get a line of street lights near where Little Bandit is parked and two breakwaters down at the other end off to the left of the threshold, all about 50 feet in the air. Do you see those?

Lovely stuff Peter
I shudder to think what my framerates would be down to (probably minus gigures) running all that - but I can enjoy your shots
Did it take many fuel stops to get to HK in Little Bandit?

Hi Peter. I'm sticking with FS9 (until the day that DM's aircraft work better in FSX!). I've just come back from doing a bit of spotting and have closed FS as I have to go to work, so I don't have time to check now. I certainly didn't notice anything but then again I wasn't looking for it. I'll have a look tomorrow or Friday and let you know. You could try looking on the FlyTampa forum - there's something here about raised scenery:

What I
did spot was an animated windsock near the threshold of 13! What a great touch. I put in a strong crosswind and it really made it flutter! Whatever next?
Cheers
Ian

Peter, I quickly sent AI Archie down to have a look round in the Pajero and he reports nothing untoward with the scenery. He's a good man to have around.
The windsock reacts correctly to the amount and direction of wind. It's amazing how something so simple can satisfy a grown man

Ian,
Thanks for that pointer...That thread contained the solution to my problem and it is completely fixed now. It was a mesh file that was lurking in Addon Scenery/scenery and it was called "hongkong10.bgl". I don't know where it came from but I just disabled it and all is now normal :flying:
I use animated windsocks all the time, even mounted on Dolphins at Seaplane Bases.
