There was a similar competition when the then British Airways Birmingham (now swallowed up by London Airways) were looking to name their aircraft. The competition in the Birmingham Evening Mail wanted names related to Shakespearian characters. The most popular suggestion by a long way, was 'Bottom'. Strangely, this never appeared on an aircraft.

I went to school in Aldridge, the bus going via Pelsall. And my Mom worked in Brownhills.

I think it was because Aer Lingus already use it on their aircraft so the engineers know which way up it goes.

Consolidated Caldmore although Consolidated being American they won't pronounce it correctly, plus the red lights would be permanently on.

Strange but there is a slight connection between de Havilland and Darlaston - my late grandfather used to work at Rubery Owen in the town (long closed) and he once told me he had done some work connected with the componentry for the Comet. He was a toolsetter, but I don't know if de Havilland outsourced any componentry although with Boulton Paul just up the road in Pendeford having done some work on de Havilland Vampires, perhaps that's the connection. My late grandfather was in his seventies when he said this so age and memory might have been playing tricks. However, during the war, RO were a hive of activity feeding various shadow factories around the area so there's probably quite a reasonable connection between Darlaston and de Havilland!

How about a DH Dover or a Percival Peebles...........or perhaps a Miles Margate or an Auster Argyle :think:
