Speaking of Ales and such like, I can highly recommend the Richmond Brewing Company. They have just started up and I have had the pleasure of Richmond Station Ale.... its exceptional. Still no word about when or how the public will get hold of it, but if you see it over the comming months grab a bottle, its one of Yorkshires finest.

Very surprised by that. It seems as we have just had the comback of the small breweries over the past few years and now they are buying eachother up. It will be interesting to watch as the tax breaks are for small local breweries so at least jobs should be safe... but who knows. :-(

OOOO! Does that mean you will now be selling Marston's Pedigree? I still miss my pint of Peddi after being over here for 15 years :-( . It was pure nectar when I used to drink it (mind you after 15 years they have probably 'tweaked' the brew and ruined it in the name of 'progress'....GRRR! :@ )

Fraid not Larry.. I don't care very much for Marstons Pedigree Coors would sell it to me now if I so wanted it ;-)

I remember going inside the VAB at Canaveral very early in 1968 and seeing Apollo 11 being put together
The concept of a building that had its own rainshowers in side was bad enough but to see a Saturn 5 being
loaded was incredible - amazing that shortly after I sat and watched very grainy black and white film of
Neil Armstrong - amazing it seems like yesterday

As to the new mission - YES a permanent base is envisaged for the Moon - basically because you can build one
hell of a mass-driver there - which allows the launch and delivery of missions to Mars (The one that Tag wants
to command in about forty years)

as 90% of whats launched from Earth will never come back then why not resort to a known successful design
I will guarntee with modern avionics there will be a lot more room inside

Basic crew for Orion is 6.

From the NASA website -

Orion will be similar in shape to the Apollo spacecraft, but significantly larger. The Apollo-style heat shield is the best understood shape for re-entering Earth’s atmosphere, especially when returning directly from the moon. Orion will be 5 meters (16.5 feet) in diameter and have a mass of about 22.7 metric tons (25 tons). Inside, it will have more than two-and-a-half times the volume of an Apollo capsule.

The Apollo module is 3.9 meters in diameter and weighs about 5.8 metric tons.

While the shuttle does have some unique capabilities it never really lived up to its promises. The shuttle was advertised as being able to be launched as many as a dozen times for the cause of one Saturn V launch, in reality the cost ratio has been the other way, costing more for each shuttle launch than the Saturn system. In the long run Nasa would have been better off had they continued to develop the Saturn rockets into a heavy launch booster system.

From what I read about the Orian system they are going back in that direction.
