You gave me the impetus to actually fly the thing without the distraction of visual eye-candy - so I was able to monitor the autopilot, and what the control surfaces were doing etc. I opted to try the cat 3 b for my first effort:


As usual, clear and unambiguous instruction from Peter made it a (relative) doddle. :flying:

Of course the other advantage of flying in thick fog is that you don't have to buy add-on scenery ...

As an interesting aside on that picture...you have not quite reached Decision Height...The white bug on the Rad Alt set at 12 feet. On reaching that height on the "Decide" call from P3 the Captain only had to see ONE LIGHT to say "LAND!" as opposed to "OVERSHOOT!" Your picture does really bring home that point.

BTW...on my machine that CATIIIb saved flight gives much lower visibility than you have there...mine is just default FS9 weather. Perhaps you have another Weather program installed...Here is the weather I get on that flight:-

Hi peter,

Nothing at all installed - pure default weather. I loaded up to have a look, and the visibility islider is all the way left. Not sure why it looks clearer...

Rolling for the takeoff into the murk.....


and just about to touchdown.......Peter has made it possible - as Ian said, this is a great feeling....



These are shots taken during the exercise, I did not record it, in case that messed up settings etc.

Jim I wonder if you would load that CATIIIb flight and when it opens go World > Weather > Customise Weather button and look at the Visibility Scale...The slider should be fully left at "one sixteenth mi/0.1 km" (the one sixteenth is shown as a fraction)...The reason I ask is that I have a suspicion that the slider may change according to the power of your graphics card. Thats' basically what I get! It does actually look a little too clear - I have flown in worse so I'm not sure what the problem is!
