Re: New Alphasim freebies...
Blimey its a freebie now, had a good time when i done the textures for that Halifax collection, was my first ever bit of work for AS, haven't done anything for ages as i am not working there anymore, but brings a tear to my eye when i look at the collection remembering that it was my first piece of work that i had done for them, just seems like years ago.
Oh well as its a freebie now i think i will have to go over and get it,might make me get back into painting again who knows

Interesting. I'd always thought that the pannier was designed by Transport Command.DispatchDragon wrote:Someone will correct me if Im wrong
but I beleive a young Freddie and a feldgling version of ATEL designed the Pannier for the Halton.
Best wishes

They are good paints! Fancy doing a Coastal Command one ? I think Coastal used the B Mk III, maybe only for met flights though...not sure. :think:Gerry wrote:Blimey its a freebie now, had a good time when i done the textures for that Halifax collection, was my first ever bit of work for AS, haven't done anything for ages as i am not working there anymore, but brings a tear to my eye when i look at the collection remembering that it was my first piece of work that i had done for them, just seems like years ago.

Garry - I think they had some harmonics issues with the three bladed props - not sure when exactly those issues arose (maybe it was only at low altitude), but the four bladers stopped it.

Ah, thanks Garry. From that article, quote...
" The resulting Halifax Met. V was modified by Cunliffe-Owen who also undertook the conversion of the aircraft earmarked for Coastal Command. To operate in this demanding role sorties were frequently made with two navigators and two pilots who would operate in shifts to complete the mission. The Met crews of Nos. 517, 518, 519, 520, and 521 Sqns were not afforded the luxury of avoiding foul weather to gather wind speed and pressure information they had to fly in all conditions and there were inevitably losses. Later versions of the Hercules powered versions were also converted to this important role that was vital the planning of large-scale operations on land, sea and air. "
So, a Coastal Command B Mk III would be authentic.

Re: New Alphasim freebies...
If I had realised there were civilian liveries in the set I would have happiy paid for this, but now, thanks to the tip and the screen shots I'm a happy bunny free of charge.
I know this is a "British" forum but does anybody know anything about Vingtor Airways of Norway? I have tried to look up history for LN-OAT which is included in the download as a Halifax. I have found three conflicting bits of information.
1. Halifax LN-OAT never reached Vingtor Airways (see item 3) and instead went on to Eagle Aviation in 1948 as G-ALEF.
2. Vingtor had two Haltons - one of which was LN-OAT and these were active in Norway until 1953.
3. Vingtor started up in 1946 but went bankrupt in 1948.
Doesn't quite make sense?
Thanks for any info on this.

H John
The Norwegians readily re use registration so there may have been more than one
Also active in Norway does not necessarily mean with original owner
All I have is
G-ALEF Mk. C.VIII c/n1399 registered 09-10-1948 ex LN-OAT scrapped Luton 1950
