Hi Chris
Yes Vista has had the same thing.
I also bought that the day it came out and once i managed to disable the UAC i have loved it.
XP looks like windows for workgroups to me now.
Also that shot is DX 10 as it adds a little better lighting and reflection
also got the VC dinamic shadows working but they are a little odd as the style of cockpit means i cannot mask off the outside to give the correct "Manifold" for the shade
to work 100% accurately. But it's only a preview anyway and few people actually bother with the DX10 preview as i get flashing ground polys on almost all addon airfields.
Regards
Rick
Model is hopefully in around the Acceleration pack FA-18 standard
no missions as i don't seem to be able to find anyone willing to put their money where their mouth is when they say they can make missions.
Currently the FS community is too full of critics that make nothing other than criticism (aimed at Avsim forums!) not here

Hi Garry
I was not referring to anyone here mate.
was aiming at a core group of troublemakers i keep bumping into on the Avsim forums.
they have given me endless abuse for not staying FS9.
It now looks like FS11 will not be around till 2010 at least as M$oft are playing "Choo! Choo!" for the next 2 years
so in my view the future at least for now is FSX SP2 native.
which has taken me a year to get my head round all the new bits broken by ACES (sorry Phil!) ;-)
and now the models are so complex if you have everything working as per the FSX SP2 sdk that turning it into FS9 is a waste of effort as 90% of what makes the model special is gone.
Please don't take offence guys
Regards
Rick

Hi mate
Understand now what you are saying..
Sorry I read too much into your statement
LIke you say the bits that really make it FS.X are not transferrable back to ( so there is little point in turning it back.

Well the Hawk looks brilliant, and I can only say well done to Rick for his strong stance on FS9/FSX models. It seems that developers get a lot more flak for not making FS9 compatible models than they do for not making FSX ones. It's as if some people (not naming any names or pointing fingers at anyone over here) have the idea that developers have a duty to create addons for everyone, despite the limitations or advantages of either sim. If Rick, IRIS, AlphaSim, Captain Sim, or whoever want to make specialised models for a specific version of Flight Sim, then there should be nothing to stop them from doing so!
Not wanting to stir anything up, but that's the way I see it. ;-)

Hi Garry
turning back was planned before i got going.
but 180 + custom animated 3d parts in the rear seat alone means it just won't go back.
it's now so complex that you will have to select which seat you want to sit in when you load the aircraft as FSX won't accept 360+ animated parts in one model
(I can't compile it anyway and have no idea if there is a limit to the number of animations in one model or if it's a total number of keyframes used limit)
So it will be very difficult to make a worthwile conversion as the framerate will be rubbish in FS9 and pointless as it can't handle anywhere near the complexity that FSX does.
the Hawk has default Aircraft Framerates or thereabouts in FSX but no way in FS9 :-(
one thing that annoys the whatzits off me are those that say i get 60 fps in FS9 and only 30 in FSX (20 fps in FSX is smoother than 60 in FS9 for me)

stop worrying about framerate and enjoy flying (turn off the framecounter and you no longer worry!)
it's not definate yet but we have to see if we get ripped off again when the Hawk is relesed to see if it will be worth the effort or even possible
as the current Torrent community are killing the whole thing. (as was the SeaVixen)
thats why i went payware as my free stuff is sold on Ebay and uploaded everywhere without my permission.
so why should i line someone else's pockets (other than Gordon Brown's of course!) but we all have to do that :brick:

Rick

Rick, its been said about the IRIS F-20, its way too complicated to be reversed to FS9... But people just dont get it that it wont happen! And the FPS thing aswell, im on locked 20 FPS on the Hawk Beta and its smooth as a, well you get the idea

Hi Rick, I am not all suprised about the lack of an FS9 model, as I can see the amount of work required to make some thing that you would not be happy with.
As far as protecting your work, I hope some form of security can be built in to the product, unlike many products that are available on Torrent. The Sibwings guys (to my knowlege) have never been pirated, because of the secure system they use. Perhaps they would be able to offer some info on how to proceed with a system?
The Hawk will be a reason for many to leave FS9 ( or at least run FSX as well as FS9), the problem I face if I upgrade a bit (go dual core), you can bet your life, it will be hopeless for FX11!!

Jim Cooper and are working on what we hope will be a resolution to the piracy threat, although saying that is probably like a red flag to a bull!. If the project proceeds as we hope the Hawk should be protected on launch.

Hi Guys,
RE the Piracy thing... and I may be barking up the wrong tree, but the flight1 wrapper seems good? Although not sure how easy it is to rip off once its unlocked. The trick seems to be to realease something sub standard and then only alow registered customers the update, but even that can be torrented. Another reason I do't use torrents. Its a bit like food shopping... if you can afford to, folk should go to their local Green grocer / butcher / baker etc rather than Tesco and ASDA etc who are only interested in screwing the supplyier so they can make morw money... a fair price for a fair product will never upset anyone who is reasonable.
Tweek,
my point on the Captainsim 757 is I paid for an FSX version, that is no more than the FS9 version with a thumbnail and that pisses me off. Why not use "FSX compatible" in the description? ... I can tell you, lazyness and greed. They couldn't be arsed making an FSX version when for no cost they can sell the FS9 version and stick an FSX "sticker" on it. Thats completely against any trades descriptions. At least the Alphasim stuff IS FSX optomised.
