Is there one that doesn't move? :worried:

I think the FS9 version works as static scenery in FSX (worked in the demo). It's actually easier to land on the moving version as you're slightly further from the stall (20kts). If you want the FSX version to work as static scenery, I think you could just use the Boat AI tools (there's a link in the readme) and give it a route with zero length, anywhere you want. Plus that way the catapults work as well so you're not stuck on deck once you've landed!

I was just teasing, Skippy. It was a reflection on my poor previous performance with carrier landings! I'm sure your magnificent Ark will make it as easy for me as it must be in real life  I'll have a go after my exam next week. Needless to say, I didn't do any revision today!

Thanks again for your help and the reminder about Ark.

Ian :)

If it's any help, after I got the Ark into FSX it must have taken around 3 hours of shooting approaches before I knew I'd got the arrestor wires working! I must have written off a couple of squadrons worth of Phantoms.

The next proper thing to do would be to install the VC10 and others.

I can also recommend a visit over to HJG...

But take one at a time, no need to rush into insanity at once ;-)

If I were you, firstly I would be a bit older, secondly, I would make a visit at DM's round-abouts, and get the VC10.

If you can't fly the VC10, then what is there to come for anyway? ;-)

Now that you have FSX, you might want to use one of the various possibilities to install 3.th party aircraft.

Oooh! Bitch!

Well, anyway, Miss Young Denmark 1986, I've got a full collection of up-to-date VC10s already. After I've done my revision, I'd like some advice on how to load G-ARVB into FSX and then when I've got more used to the sim, I'll try an HJG 707. I keep thinking about what SkippyBing said about how FSX is good for buzzing about in small a/c and FS9 is better for airliners. I've only had a couple of flights in default a/c so far, but maybe he's right. Maybe that's the answer. One sim's better for one type of flying and vice versa (that's Latin - don't worry about it. The Romans didn't bother with Denmark  ).

No-one really notices that small appendix called Denmark anyway

Only if some of us make cartoons ... or sumpn.... whoops OFFTOPIC

Well I' have never flown anything smaller than the VC10 be it FS9 or FSX, and I still only fly FSX ... so guess it's a matter of taste anywho ;-)

I've loaded the VC10 OK and done a couple of flights. My biggest problem is that the eyepoint up/down command doesn't seem to work in any of the 2D cockpits (including the default a/c). Luckily the VC10 has autoland so I was able to watch from outside  Is there a way round this? Because, call me old-fashioned, but I like to see a bit of the runway when I'm trying to land

First impressions with the sim are mixed. I think the scenery is better although DM's revamped VC10 looks just as good in FS9. Here is G-ARVB arriving at Manchester in FSX.

I flew for a couple of hours in FSX and then went back to FS9 to compare. My FS9 is smoother than FSX with average frame rates about 20% higher. I have had to reduce the AI in FSX to minimal to get fairly smooth performance and this makes the airports less realistic. I think on my machine, there doesn't seem to be much benefit in running FSX. I would have to sacrifice too much just to get better scenery and scenery's not really my thing anyway. I'm an aeroplane man Image Anyway, we'll see how it goes.
