Every now and again.. you've just gotta go and shoot the sh1t out of something and oddly enough, Combat sims don't do it for me. FPS definately does ;-)

Dave, I know exactly what you mean. Done properly, FS is quite demanding, so a healthy dose of mindless violence can be just the ticket to unwind. And these FPS games can be very good too. One map in MOH:AA was in a misty snow-covered park; you could hear the whistle of a steam locomotive off in the distance and the bark of a dog somewhere. You even had the 'crump-crump' sound effects of walking through deep snow as you moved around ...it was extraordinary. :)

By the way, a long time ago, Ed Walters and I used to play Operation Flashpoint on the web. Thats more of an actual battlefield simulator, as it has a mission editor, add-on models, and you can go anywhere on the map. He was a dab hand at laying mines in the road while I covered him from a nearby hill. ;-)

Just thinking... is this discussion about as off-topic as we can get in CBFS ??

Well Paul.. it is off topic if you didn't find the secret map hidden in level 2!

Perob..
We're not all on one or the other mate.. just a healthy mixture of both ;-)

Hi Perob :)

I really don't know about DX10 mate.. other than you need a DX10 card to run it (obviously) and Vista. It's almost like DX10 never caught the train I suppose. Companies were towting DX10 cards yet the poor folk who'd bought Vista found there were no Vista drivers. FSX was meant to be DX10 but DX10 wasn't ready when FSX was released. I think it's one of those nightmares that it's developers will live with for a long time ;-)

Anyway.. SP2 has things trundling along nicely with WinXP/DX9 so I'd guess the Vista users are having similar fun :cpu:

I went to install SP2 and it gave me an error saying SP1 was not installed even though it was. Went and downloaded SP1 again and
installed. All good , tried SP2 again.......same error, no SP1 installed. Only thing I have not done is rebooted the puter but I'm sure
it would tell you to do that if it's needed.

I'll keep trying.

Actually no Dave for some reason I read the post, did a few other things then just googled it and
got it off microsoft somewhere, so I'm downloading it again from the link in the first post here, see
if that makes a diff.

All good fun for a Sunday, got plenty of time lol.......biggest one day snow storm here in 60 years.

OK mate.. not to worry. An easy mistake as Acceleration doesn't (as far as I know) let you know it's installing it
