HI Guys,
Thanks for the HU on the water textures, I'll get those post-haste
I can see the issue with the use of detailed vs default aircraft, and even some cockpits as well - and there is certainly more for the machine to do than in FS8 - and cerainly I don'e expect massive framerates over London or any other city - or even in mountainous areas such as Hawaii - but the stuttering over open water has me perplexed! Having said all that, in experiments, using the Comet for example, I can have the sliders quite high and get good results - of course I'm flying 'properly' then and not 500 feet over London or diving into mountain ranges
hopefully, it should settle down once I get all the sliders 'settled'!

If it hasn't benn mentiond, try to make a backup of your fs9.cfg file, and then delete it (not the backup) and let FS make a new one when it starts. That might solve some of your problems.
Then adjust you sliders, and don't edit the cfg file with all the "tweaks" mentioned here and there....
(if you can't find your fs9.cfg, it is placed here: C:\Documents and Settings\<UserName>\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9 remember to enable "Show Hidden Files and Folders" in Folder Options)
Let the Application do the antialiasing, not the card.....

Have you tried updating the graphics card drivers?
I'm wondering if the performance issues are down to the graphics card. You mention you have a 6200 Turbocache card. These have either 16 or 32mb of RAM onboard and use system RAM to boost the figures to 128/256mb respectively. Because they use system RAM, they send large amounts of data between the PCI-E slot and the system RAM causing delays they wouldn't exist on a 'normal' graphics card.
The Turbocache cards also have no support for Anti-Aliasing so if you have that option ticked in FS, the data throughput increases again.

Just turned the anti-aliasing off, and get a respectable 29fps while doing lunacy in the hunter around Mcleland field. Still feel I can tweak things a little more - but that was a great tip Charlie Bravo, thanks

It explains why the Sim was grinding at random intervals.

If you are getting 29fps with all my McLeland Field traffic running then you are doing very well and you should be satisfied with that

But don't forget that with your Forceware AA turned off you can tick the AA box in FS9. You can leave the AF to be done by your Forceware without framerate hit problems.

Hi Peter
Seems to be a lot more stable now. I managed 25 fps as I flew past the windfarm in the hunter at 300 kts, nice and smooth. Did drop to around 20 as I approached the field after turning back, there were 4 aircraft in the immediate vicinity of the field doing various things - but it was fine.
My Nvidia AA settings were at 'Application controlled' - I truned this off and ticked the FS9 box again. Not sure I detect a major difference

You wouldn't ;-)
Turn them on again on the nvidia setting (Application Controlled that is, as that is exactly what you just have done

Oops!
Although the manager still says it's 'Off' (no antialiasing) when I'm out of FS9.
Need to experiment a little more and see what I can get out of it

- the general setup is 'Performance' .
