In that case, I assume you have no objection in the nose art being removed from RAF aircraft, as we should respect the culture and traditions of the Muslim country they are based in.
Touché.

But surely the fact that we're fighting a war in their country is bad enough? How is nose-art, that no civilian is actually going to see, going to offend any of the inhabitants any more than the fact that we're there in the first place?!

And anyway, I never said we had a right to be in Afghanistan. I'd rather we kept our own traditions, and got the hell out of there!
How do you know no civilians are going to see it ? What about civilian workers on the bases ( I assume they do have them ). What about the mileage the Taliban could make of pictures of semi-naked women on aircraft, when we claim to be there to restore the rule of law in a deeply conservative Muslim society ?

Nose art is great fun, but its very VERY secondary to the task in hand. What's the point in possibly upsetting the locals, and making your job that little bit more difficult ? Why not just accept the social mores of the society in which you are operating, do as the Romans do, and make your life a little bit easier ? No pilot's going to die through a lack of nose art.

One thing I would like to know is whether there have actually been any complaints, regarding the nose art. Not only the amount, but who, aswell.
