Here's a close-up of the corner of that shed.
Image
No balcony that I can see, just some different coloured planks on the corner which could be what maybe look like a balcony at first glance.
Maybe someone ran into the corner with his bike necessitating a quick repair job. :worried:

Hi Mike,

Very happy with the number of windows, etc. I'll leave it to you over the detail but not worried about drainpipes or guttering. The RAF were always content to let us get wet!

Hi Nev,
Made a copy and halved it to 40ft. :cpu: The windows were all squished up, so I halved the textures.
Did a recolour. Roof was fine, ends fine, then the long sides decided to wrap around the ends, obscuring them.
I've shrunk the texture, stretched it, wept and sworn, but it keeps doing it. :wall:
Nobody wants me to work tomorrow, so I'll try again. It worked yesterday, I guess I've done something stupid, like seeing a non existent overhanging roof. It's always my fault, I'm used to it.
(Like buying a Wi-fi telephone to communicate with my wireless modem. Only trouble is, I don't have a wireless port thingy in either of the computers.)
I should have bought the pump action shotgun that plugs into the ports on the TV and runs a Zombie shoot up game.

GHD wrote:The exclusion should be "Exclude all water-polys". If there is a default coastline you will also need a separate "Exclude shoreline".

The hydro-poly should follow the coastline and around the QMid11 boundary enclosing the water area:

The flatten is a simple flatten.

Hi George,

What I've done so far is:-
1. used Google earth to draw a kml poly around the southern land side of the docks.
2. (after converting the KML file using PreFSXKML) used FSXKML to create a BGL that has the following set... Exclude_WaterPolys; Exclude_WaterPolysGPS (not sure what this one does); Exclude_Shorelines; and Airport_Backgrounds_Flatten (I think this is a standard Flatten as there doesn't seem to be one labled "Flatten" and set the elevation on this to 14FT

The above file certainly seems to flatten as expected and removes all of the water in the vicinity of the poly even though these areas weren't covered by the poly I drew in Google earth. I think this is were there is a big hole in my understanding. I was thinking that by drawing the poly in GE that the effects of it would only apply to that area, but they seem to apply to every tile it touches. Sorry mate, this must be like pulling hens teeth for you.

Remember what I said?

"The problem with this is that the exclusion will delete to QMid11 boundaries so you may need to extend your hydro-poly to match the default coastline"
used FSXKML to create a BGL that has the following set
I think that was your second mistake, does FSXKML show QMid boundaries? (I have never used that program).

It is much easier to use SBX. It will show the QMid boundaries and a GE background image around which you can draw the hydro-poly.

Hi George,

I did extend the hydro poly, but used fsxkml too, so I'll see if I can sus out SBX and try again.

Hi George, all becomes clear. I'm making some progress with SBX. I've got the Hydro poly working (sort of) I hadn't remembered about the underlying mesh so the water curves up as it reaches the edges of the river / dock 8) I might try something a little less drastic than the 14ft I was planning,y to see if I can get an effect that is good. It is actually quite nice seeing the ships sailing up the river a bit lower than ground level, so I might level it as is, after all its not like I'm going to spend hours in the little ultra light checking things out. This is all a really useful learning experience

Come in Scorpius, are you receiving?

Over at Airspeed's Flying Visit, you will now find bgls for the modified 80ft hut, plus the new 40ft version in new colours.
If you have FSDS V3, you can also d/l the .fsc files, which will enable you to move and modify them both.
If you have any trouble placing and seeing them, give me a note, and we'll try to fix.
