Good luck Rob.

I spent an age trying to get into the department I'm currently in. :)

After several years of hard work and determination, I got it.

I hope things work out for you mate. B-)

Hi Rob, just re-visited this post after a long pause, just to wish you all the very best and hope that you are successful in your application and tests!!! Cannot offer you any advice as the others have done as all my camera operations are ground based!!! 8) but will really envy you if you get the job.

All the very best.

Regards
Nigel.

Well the two day assessment was by far and away the most pressured and testing assessment I've ever had. Every single piece of my personality and skill seemed to be put to the test in a very time critical fashion.

I came away just knowing I'd failed, I kept thinking of how I could have done this better and done that better, even being so stupid as to waste 10 minutes of a 40 minute navigation planning/calculation exercise by getting so flustered I used the wrong side of the rule! A big eureka moment when I thought 'how can I be searching for this missing walker over the ocean!'

Thankfully I managed to realise in time and start over again...

Got the results email, which took me 10 minutes to build up the courage to open, glad I did, it was a big fat PASS!

Flight test next. Eeeeekk!

Excellent news, big congratulations. Are they allowing you to contact another unit to see if you can get a flight prior to the test? We did this all the time for other ASU's
It would be a great help and give you some good pre flight test insight.
Cheers Tony
ps if they are not stopping you doing this then PM me and I will see what I can do about getting the lads at WMP to giving you a run out

Thanks Tony, really appreciate that.

Nothing has been said either way about taking a flight beforehand, I'm going to discuss it with our unit this week but I can't see it being an issue as now it's national I'm not going to be gaining an unfair advantage over others who would be tested by the same people, they can come from anywhere in theory. On the ground based test I got the impression it's the kind of initiative we'd be expected to take.

My test is with CCAOU who I imagine you cross paths with on occasion but if successful I'll hopefully be posted more locally.

CCAOU are a GREAT bunch, fantastic set of people, very friendly and they will be kind to you :) I would suggest you contact your unit North Mids and get a flight ASAP.
Good luck Tony
