What a company this is to work for! :o)

Got through my interview at Stansted and got told to "go fly" (at least I
think that's what he said), but not an aeroplane to be seen at Stansted for
my self-proclaimed large range of type knowledge! So I tootled off
to work out of Norwich so I can get free lodgings from my sister and
the tight-wads even made me pay to get there!

One successful short flight to Slumberside this morning, but don't
expect me to be toooooo active until I get broadband, which won't be
until I move home.

Gadzooks, just looked and only one possible flight out of Slumberside
- back to Norwich. Heigh-ho, I'll get the hang of it eventually . . .

Yup.. there are a couple of things to remember but you'll get the hang of it sharpish I'm sure. As has been said many times, type ratings are purely a matter of your own confidence so if you want a TR for a particular aircraft, just ask JP and he'll add it to your portfolio. Obviously, the more aircraft you are rated on, the greater the choice of airfields and routes

No problem with your frequency of flying either John. You fly if and whenever you feel like it Unless I'm mistaken, you have to be connected to start your flight and fuel up but can disconnect once you're on the go. Come landing/shutdown time.. just reconnect again before you hit the parking brake. Important that you do this otherwise you'll end up having to manually upload the pirep. The majority of the time, this isn't an issue but I've had it fail twice and after long flights too so I tend to be a little more careful now

Cheers Dave, some useful ideas there. I didn't realise it might be
possible to disconnect during the flight. Nevertheless, it was an excuse
to also use the constantly updating weather in FS which I have never
used before, which was most impressive - 45 mph head wind and
piddling rain all the way at 4000 feet. Ha ha - still if that's what
the weather was, that's what it was! Praise the Lord for ILS.

I've been quite flamboyant with the type ratings actually, putting
myself down for almost everything with propellers. But there was zilch
to be had at EGSS, not even a half-Heron. I don't really "do" jets
although I occasionaly have a fling in a Comet when I fancy getting
a move on.

Don't take what I said about my employer seriously, it was supposed
to be tongue in cheek. Flight simulation is for fun, so for heavens
sake don't ever think I'm complaining.

Tell me about liveries. I get the feeling that the flights cover a bit
more than just BEA territory - and whilst I understand the flights are
all kosher I haven't found anywhere to suggest which livery aircraft
we should be in. I went to Slumberside in a BEA DC-3 (I only have
a cargo one, I'm not sure a pax paint job exists?) but perhaps in the
past it was another operator that did that route?

I know it makes no difference really what livery aircraft I fly, but it
would kind of make _me_ feel better to do it right.

EGSH-EGNJ would have been at least Eastern Airways, possibly Air Anglia and maybe a few more. There was a not very good Air Anglia repaint of the default and I've never seen an Eastern Airways repaint.

...and another thing,

As you are on dial-up, it's probably best to turn the 'tracker' off. Navaigate to C:\Windows and look for the 'Flynet' configuration settings. Open with notepad and changer tracker=1 to tracker=0 then save and exit. This stops the client reporting back to the website all the time.

Yeh.. liveries. It's one of my bugbears too as I like the outside to actually be what I'm supposed to be flying I'd tend to agree with JP about that sort of route being Air Anglia. Someone did try one (was it Gerry Flores a couple of years back) but few are correct as the default DC3 has the texturemap from hell. Garry Russell did a Jersey Intra and Channel paint for it and these two tend to be the only ones I use.. oh, that and an Air Atlantique paint.

Best current fleet aircraft for liveries is the Viking. Garry has done just about every aircraft we have in a correct livery A couple are duplicated so there are actually more paints than aircraft
The Vanguards are pretty well covered but for volume.. the Viscounts have the most. What I tend to do is duplicate paint entries in the aircraft.cfg so I have as many as possible covered. OK.. outside will still say one thing when it should be something else but at least the reg plate on the 2D panel will be correct

Yes I have the Anglia DC-3 repaint - as you say the FS DC-3 is a
bit restrictive for painters but its better than not having one. I have
Garry's lovely Viscount collection coming out of my ears and have
recently added all those tasty Vikings although a decent panel for
them seems not to have arrived yet. (Unless, again, you know something
I don't!)

Just a thought on your reg numbers - rather than have multiple entries
for the same paint, you could just change the registration on the
start-up screen when you plan the flight?

Yes John.. you can do it that way if you want but as you say, there are certain things you like in place and others you will let go (I speak for myself here too) I recently did a VC10 flight LHR to EDDF in what should have been ARVB (an 1101) and did the flight in ASIX (an 1103) because I like that particular BUA paint. FlyNET wasn't fussed as all it saw was VC10 but I wasn't best pleased as I didn't change the reg as you described. I've done that before and searched for a particular paint/reg at a later date and not been able to find it as I didn't change the reg back again at the end of the flight
It's certainly less 'disc consuming' doing it the M$ way but on the DC3 in particular, looks pretty naff as you end up with two reg's showing in spot view Horses for courses mate and whatever you're comfortable with
