Oh yes!

I looked around for some CA foam safe glue and found a place local that sells it. I thought I recognised the website.. it's the same place I ordered the new fin and tailplane from.. which I ordered online and still hasn't arrived Anyway.. I nipped over on the bike (how good was it to be riding again.. very good is the answer ) and found they didn't sell individual bottles of glue (or kicker) but a 'set' of foam safe glues. I'm not sure which ones I have to use now In the pack are:
1 x 20g btl of Deluxe Roket odourless - Crystal clear, foam-safe, non-blooming cyano glue. Bonds in 10-20 secs
1 x 25ml btl Foam Blaster - Coats. Protects and Activates Foam (for instant bonding with foam safe cyano glue)
1 x 50ml btl Deluxe Foam 2 Foam & wood, plastic glue. This holds firmly in 5-10secs.. max strength in 1-2hrs
1 x 71g Deluxe Speed Epoxy adhesive
1 x 71g Deluxe Speed Epoxy hardener (4min)

And that's it. Which of these do I actually use??? I'm buggered if I know and the chap who sold them wasn't sure either!

I'm no expert matey but I was always told to use a foam safe product.

The one I use doesn't bond instantly so I have a kicker to make it set.

As long as its foam safe then it should be ok.

Seen a bloke on YouTube using Gorilla glue.

I wish I knew what Gorilla glue is.. unless it's glue used by Gorillas

Reading the front of the package (which I've only just done believe it or not).. it says it's a 'Foam Glue Kit' .. Specially designed foam safe glues for construction and repair of most Depron, EPS and Syrofoam models. I don't know the difference between any of those but I guess they're all foam of some description There's probably an easier to understand description of the different glues on the front of the pack too..

Foam 2 Foam: Fast drying, fast grab glue.

Speed Epoxy: A foam safe formula ideal for gap filling tasks requiring strength and hardness (this has a hardener too)

Roket Odourless: A crystal clear, foam safe cyano glue.

Foam Blaster: coats, protects and activates foam surfaces for instant bonding with Roket Odourless.

So.. the Speed Epoxy glues work together and are for filling holes by the looks of things. Roket Odourless and Foam Blaster work together and Foam 2 Foam works on it's own. God.. there are suggested uses too. What am I like

Bonding Canopies: Use Roket Odourless. This glue will dry clear and will not burn the plastic

Carbon Fibre, Wood Stiffeners and Electric Engine Mounts: use Foam 2 Foam or Speed Epoxy

Bonding Wing Halves: Speed Epoxy glue for hard gap filling joint of high strength

Bonding hinges into slots: Roket Odourless

One of those must work on the fin. Perhaps I'll use them all just to be on the safe side

Good starter pack of glue you have Dave
Cyano essential in the flight box for field repairs sometimes its best to get a not too quick setting type let it soak in a bit before setting it off with the kicker The thicker type not bad for gap filling if a bit of the foam is missing, again setting it off with the kicker
I tend to use epoxy for repairs back home.Use carbon fibre rod( or cocktail sticks) as splints
Gorilla glue you can buy from most hardware stores or tescos for that matter. bonds well to foam it foams up itself so its quite good for gap filling Joints need supporting as its best left overnight to set

When I bought the Champ.. my thoughts were of flying NOT repairs. I should have known better

I still don't know which of the set I really need to use to repair/replace the fin but I guess experience 'in the field' will point me in the right direction Fingers crossed.. the parts will arrive tomoroow and I can get her up and running again asap. An alternative is to try and use these glues to fix what I already have. Not sure where I'll go yet

Hope the parts arrive soon Dave. I was in an identical situation a while back and was keen to get back in the air.

The original tail that came with the champ was repaired so often it became almost unrecognisable!

I'd suggest getting as much use and repairability out of the current tail as you can possibly muster before you get your shiny new one out of the box.

If its beyond help then whack it on and get up and enjoy again.

One thing I will say is don't be afraid to butcher the old one off with the knife.

Even if you scratch and scar the surface underneath, it doesn't matter as the replacement tail will cover the mess.

I'm waiting for my #11 808 Keyfob Camera from Hong Kong. Thats due any time now.
