Actually, I recall doing very little beta testing. I do recall making some input on RMIs, Brake Lever operation and a few Autopilot bits. What testing I did was mainly connected with Autoland and Kick Off Drift and then when all was working well I built the Autoland Tutorial package with starting FLT and WX files...This last was independant of beta testing and was aimed at enabling the less experienced Flight Simulator pilot to make a full CATIIIb fog landing after about an hours practice. This it failed to do miserably and the achieved result was a full CATIIIb fog landing for about 20 people

Don't underestimate you're efforts with the tutorial Peter .. I'm sure that those 20 people has got themselves a very special experience...

Peter : you are too modest. I printed your guidance notes and found that I could follow every step in no time. The only problem I encountered, ( and I think it was finger trouble on my part) was a failure to capture the localiser when inbound on the 45 degree cut, with once or twice the aeroplane turning the wrong way which at EGLL was a little disconcerting!

I think your comment sums up flightsim very nicely. No matter how complex aircraft systems become, there will always be someone who will ask 'Does it do this' or 'Does it do that' leaving the impression that all simmers fly 'By the book' when the fact is, most will or do not.

The Trident AP system is a masterful piece of work and your tutorial is no less so. As Dan said, if only 20 folk have completed it.. that's 20 who would not have done so had it not been available

I'm sure thousands of people have done it Peter. I loved the way the weather was just right, so the 'newly qualified' blind-landing pilot could spot the lights just at the last second! :dance:

Well, thank you all for the comments...The absolutely remarkable feature of the Trident autopilot is that DaveM made it look and behave exactly like the real thing...Every knob and switch exactly. That's why I felt that a tutorial was necessary. I just new that Joe Schoolboy could not just leap out of his Cessna and make the Trident do an automated flight.

I know that those who tried the tutorial, had a great time and enjoyed the experience...I'm very pleased with that, but a saying comes to mind..."You can lead a horse to water but..."
