I didn't think it was still the case..this would have been years ago but I have not seen anything on it recently.

on my flight from brize norton to the falklands, the aircraft was RAF and all seats were forward facing. must have been a tristar, all i remember was it was white in colour and it was packed on the return journey.

Sounds like a TriStar.....almost certainly.

Seems not to be a requirement now

We had 2 trips to Canada and back in the mid 70's in RAF VC10's I am positive both were forward facing. The air trooping British Eagle Britannia to Singapore were forward facing so was the return flight on a Trans Globe Airways Brit

Hi Rich the airliners would have been normal

The ones that were wearing military serials in the fifties were suppose to have rearward facing.

But it seems to have faded away. :dunno:

Just as an aside - Contiental used to fly 727s with "club" seating in the rows adjacent to the aft galley - mainly due to the emergency exit back there on a 727-200 - if you could get sat there it was wonderful - lots of leg room - and the bar right at your left elbow :)

Garry,

To re-iterate what I said in the other thread, I flew in BA Trident 2s out to Berlin and back numerous times in the early 80s and they had the first two or three rows facing backward.

A couple of times I sat in the last of these but I can't recall a table between it and the first forward facing row. Maybe they took them out and shuffled the rows about to maximise the pax load? Not a good idea in any Gripper I'd have said, especially in a Tri 2 flying out of Tegel! Quite how they ever operated profitably out of Templehof in the old days I have no idea, must have had a 40% pax load....

Hi Kit

I doubt if they ever made a profit

The whole point of the nationalised carriers was to provide services where needed rather than only where profit could be made

BEA Argosys for instance lost money every year..they lost millions over the time they operated the type.

A lot of the routes they operated in the UK have now been abandoned by later carriers after being dropped earlier with the need to be profitable now.

When I flew to Singapore on a British Eagle Britannia as a boy, all the seats faced the rear.
