Although it looks similar, the AV-8B (GR5/7/9) is a much bigger and heavier beastie, and has lots of differences.
IIRC the de-min water was activated by microswitches under the throttle
quadrant, and nozzle levers thus, if advanced far enough forwards,with nozzles at a particular angle; the water would come on.
But yes, it is for engine cooling as well as increasing engine air charge density.
