We've been running 10% ethanol here in the states for the better part of 6 months now, and no one's had any problems sans a slight reduction in fuel efficiency (my car went from ~20MPG to ~19MPG), so unless British-sold engines are built totally different from engines sold in the US, it's not the ethanol.
Here in the US, the price of gasoline has gone down since the introduction of Ethanol-enhanced fuels (multiple reasons, but the corn harvest last year was extremely good so cost wasn't nearly as high). There is concern that there may be a shortage or the price of corn may cause problems for ranchers and farmers who use corn in their animal feed (which could cause beef and pork prices to rise significantly), but we'll just have to see what happens.

Nowt to do with the subject, but the query - "What's silicon?" - brought to mind something that came up in my class in the eary 50's.

The class wag suggested that the word "carbon" should be read backwards. You can imagine the resultant howls of laughter form the resident callow youths. Took "Sir" nearly 5 minutes to restore order.

latest is that an AA source has said that traces of silicon have been found in the fuel....

Its a conspiracy by the government, garage industry & the petrol producers :think:

If you put addatives in the petrol that car engines dislike, you boost the coffers of the garages charged with doing the repairs, more money for them, thus, for a short time....reducing the number of vehicles clogging the roads. :redface: Plus having had you car repaired & petrol drained you have to then fork out again to refill it :crying:
