Nice thread Rob. I love going out on my bike and it keeps the lard from building up on my perfectly defined body(!) :worried:

I prefer that to going round the country doing 165mph dressed as a power ranger. :poke:

BTW Garry, Dawes are a great British bike builder who are sadly fading into the background due to American competition. The Edge was (and still is) a great bike, you sneaky old toad!

I guess Im going to have to breakdown and invest in a mountain bike
probably wont find a Brit one here though. But we do have some
challenging terrain to ride on

This is about ten minutes up the road from me

Image

the mountains in the background are about 40 miles away and theres nothing in between

Tonks - you may have been there - its the Valley of Fire just north of Nellis

The wife pedaling her Trek 1000 as I follow along on my Specialized Alez. We started cycling last Spring and are enjoying it immensely!

And then there is this

I wouldn't be too happy with the unit so close.

One slight malfunction and the voice goes up an octave :worried:

Garry,

Would just love to see the faces of drivers at traffic lights with one of those rocket powered bikes when they go green!!

OK. I can join in this thread. I rode bikes for 25 years and my last was a Honda VF750 - ostensibly sold because of a divorce, but secretly because I felt I was riding it too fast and felt an accident coming on.

I'm 60 now anyway, so figured I needed to look after myself and bought this pretty little thing:

and then look what happened:

Ride safely lads!

I dont believe you should travel on anything thats incapable of standing up on its own [two] wheels unassisted! My dentist had a nasty accident on a bicycle that left him with a recurring shoulder injury that forced him to quit his job, a guy up the road from me was left paralysed from the head down after a similar accident and my uncle was actually killed on a bicycle.

Tonks and Ian - stick to airliners, much safer whizzing round the sky at 30,000ft in a tin can at the best part of 600mph than 15mph on the ground one of those silly two wheeled jobs

You are right Toby. If you look at the accident statistics you are zillions of times more likely to be squashed on a bicycle than any other form of transport - except, probably, as a pedestrian

I'm no hero. I only ride on pavements to get to the green lanes and the canal. My biggest danger is overestimating my own skill (see above  ).

I remember reading a couple of years back about a New Yorker who was so terrified of going out that he became a virtual recluse and rarely left his apartment. One day, the couple downstairs had a violent argument and a bullet came through his floor and hit him while he was asleep on his couch. He survived - but heaven only knows what sort of gibbering wreck he is now!
