Quite right Vegas, I forget about Wroughton & have never been there.
May have to make an effort this year.

Is their Trident 3 in BA red tail as well? Can't remember.
If so I'll retract the request for the Duxford VC10 repaint before this lot flay me alive!

Is possible that a bare metal finish would have meant reskinning corroded areas instead of cure and paint over.

But for me I would rather see it in a livery that had the grey bottom than a compromise.

But in this case it is one of the aircraft that made the first Atlantic scheduled pax service which is the main thing the Comet 4 was famous for during it's BOAC days which were overshadowed a bit by the Boeing 707.

As a Dan Air Comet it represented the Comet 4 series at it's most famous, but it is really overshadowed by this particular aircrafts fame in BOAC service.

Still it does look smart and maybe sometime in the future it can get the metal finish.

Don’t quote me on this as it’s just my own hypothesis but I suspect that the Comet has been painted grey to protect it from the elements. I don’t think it will be staying in the restoration area of ‘Airspace’ and is currently only there whilst it’s being repainted etc. I wouldn't mind betting that before too long one of the other airliners will take the Comets place in the restoration area for bit of a spruce up.

Hi Alex,

The Comet has been earmarked for being an 'inside' Airspace exibit for long time matey. Things may have changed but this was the plan. She was only outside in her DanDare paint a comparatively short time and went downhill rapidly so for this reason alone, I hope she stays indoors. Moreso, I hope they open her up to the public.. if she's in a fit state :think:

Yes Dave.... concur inside as far as I know as with the Viscount which also surprised me by being painted grey again.

The have military aircraft in natural without covering them in grey

It is very beautiful indeed. Was it actually bare metal when it entered service in 1958, or had the grey taken over by then?

I hope your right and that Duxfords Comet is still earmarked to go into Airspace rather than back outside.

As I say, what I've said is merely a my own hypothesis based on the fact that aircraft's been painted as if to withstand the elements rather than for historical accuracy and also because I had understood the there was found to be not enough room to fit in all of the aircraft originally planned for Airspace.

With luck I've draw two and two together and come up with five. :madhead:
