Thanks for all that Ian:-

That is exactly the same problem as I have. I have not yet flown till the outboards empty but I was foolish enough to turn off some pumps with the crossfeeds open in the cruise and all four promptly flamed out

I got them all going again but the only way I can see to get the four wing tanks with the same quantity in each is to start with them loaded that way. As far as I can see, the only way I can use any extra fuel in the inboards is to fly on the inner engines only after the outers flameout as their tanks empty. There must be something I have not spotted

The patch is an area either made of a different material or coated with corroguard of something but apart from the earlier bays it has that different finish..from about the same time as the area of fuse under the wing to a rounded end ahead of the wing was painted in a grey protective coating along with wing and tailplane surfaces.
But is quite correct for it to be there on the paint.
It can be seen on this 727.....someitmes it's barely visible other times it clearly shows.

I would be nice to know the exact reason

Peter - Chris Trott came back to your fuel question on the HJG forum and referred us back to an older post, which I think contains the information you are looking for. Hope this helps.

Whew! The information is coming thick and fast, Peter. They are very helpful people over at HJG! Harerton Dourado has updated his earlier post with more excerpts and diagrams from the manual - as of 18:18 this evening.
I hope you're keeping up!

Thanks Ian...yes, I'm keeping up and will be going off soon in the user aircraft with my 15 tons of freight...Don't know if you use FSCargo 1.2 but to limit the freight loaded on an assignment, you need to place full fuel on before calling for the assignment and then reduce the fuel load as necessary for the sector. If I reduce the fuel first at PAMA for the KSFO leg then FSCargo promptly loads 38 tons of freight and I'm back to my difficulties in getting out of here. It's no problem really and should only be relevant for short runways

The patch on the lower starboard side of the fuselage, just aft of the flight deck windows? On the DF727 repaint template, it pops up in a layer called 'Non-metallic parts'. Goodness knows exactly what it is.
Nice screenshots again Peter!

Thinking about it again, the 'non-metallic parts' layer include a circular patch on the front of the fin which is almost certainly the ADF antenna window - I think this patch might be the radar altimeter window. If not it's a window for some other antenna.
