"U.S. Air Force to destroy entire fleet of British-made Firefly training planes with deadly history"

Nice bit of unbiased and considered reporting :tuttut:

I will have to warn a colleague of mine who bought one (unintentionally?) from the RAF. He put in a low bid for the auction and won! The man from the RAF rang up and wanted to know when he could collect it.

Surely not Jim, I can't imagine the USA doing such a thing! And as for the suggestion that any USAF pilot would ever make an error!

I still can't quite believe that the EH-101 got the Marine One contract, AgustaWestland must employ better lobbyists than Sikorsky!! :poke:

Its really simple

KCOS - Colorado Springs where the USAF Academy is - elevation
6187 amsl - average summer temp - 34C - Orginally the airforce academy
used the T41 (Cessna 172 with upgraded engine in 2 seat configuration)
for that very reason - So toss in a 200 pound instructor and a 200 pound student on a 34C day - AND the fact that the USAF uses low time instructors
and you have a recipe for accidents, the mere fact that the rate is so low
surprises me - maybe if they had operated the Firefly at somewhere closer to sea level -the problems would not have appeared.

Hi Dave,

It's getting there, slowly ...........

I know this little plane isn't most peoples cup of tea, but it's a starting point for My modeling learning curve!!

I'll keep posting WIP shots when there's more to show!

Cheers.....

'Getting there slowly' and 'Learning Curve' are two key points you made there Dyl. I appreciate (as you do) folk's enquiries can innocently put pressure on where none is required. The point is.. it will come when it's done and not before

That's coming on nicely Dyl and the type is one of those nice little recreational types.

As a change to pounding the airways of flying through the valley in a fast jet....it nice to have something like that to fly around quietly and admire any scenery that has been added on

Well done on that.
