I have solved the magneto problem! The fix was a change to the aircraft.cfg file. Look for the "[piston_engine]" section and then look for the entry "auto_ignition=1" (it is about fifth from the bottom of the list). Change as follows:

[piston_engine]

auto_ignition=0 //was auto_ignition=1

Problems still remain, however. If you shut down the engines and feather them then restart, the plane will not move - you can set the throttle to full and nothing happens other than pissing off the noise abatement folks! I found you have to retsart using Ctrl-E, then E1234 to engage the throttles (for which there is no panel gauge) then she moves.

I have made some other modifications, such as adding NAV radios from the Avro Anson and a suitable period autopilot that I forget from whence it came (memory challenged). The panel has a autopilot button, but no means of engaging any modes. I also added a fuel selector. These are not required for the magneto fix above but I am a tinkerer and that sometimes results in disasters!

I kinda like this old girl I guess.

Hi to all, got back from SA this morning after my rather exhausting 19 hr flights, however I've not been online while in Cape Town.

The Magneto issue I was aware of but found that sometimes they worked ok other times they did not, this was obviously due to fiddling with the aircraft.cfg as Nigel kindly points out.
As for the aircraft not moving while on full throttle and feathering on I shall have to research this as in all honesty I hadn't noticed this particular issue.

Hugo I was in SA visiting my fiancee so I ...ahem have been distracted of late.

Just as an added note regarding Nigels comments re Autopilot etc. As stated in the documentation that comes with my Marathons, Authenticity was the name of the game as far as possible and according to my research the Autopilot was literally an on off affair with no special modes. Throttles etc were considered but I have found with some models that too many panels cause a lot of clutter but I guess we all like different things. All the Marathon representations I and many others have reported that it is a pussycat to fly and extra flying assistance wouldn't and certainly shouldnt be necessary but again it's up to the individual. What really bugs me is when you download an old aircraft and the author has gone and put a modern GPS as a panel add on which kinda wrecks it for me. OK so you can remove them, but I feel it shouldn't be there in the first place.
Strewth what am I going on about - - it's only a simulation!

And to Garry, I've been awake since 3.45am Friday so yep pretty much everything is tired but it's been worth it. Going to try and do this all over again in December

Now that Iâ€™ve had time to recover Iâ€™ve put my brain into gear and perhaps I may be able to clear up any confusion for you Nigel re: feathering issue

FACT

1: The Marathon 1/1A/T11 is equipped with D.H. Hydromatic Constant speed fully feathering airscrews

2: The purpose of being able to feather an airscrew is to provide a neutral thrust to prevent windmilling in the event of an engine failure. Therefore if the airscrews are feathered when the aircraft is on the ground they will provide no thrust whatsoever.

SUGGESTION

Insofar as Flight Sim is concerned when Taxiing/flying the Marathon or any other similarly equipped aircraft, I would suggest de-feathering before attempting to move and thereby getting maximum performance from your efforts

Garry, think the Marathon would have been quicker as at least it would fly direct and besides how bout that for a flying experience, noisy but at least id have the leg room.

And Hugo, I may take you up on your offer as I will be coming back to Cape Town ASAP to look for a job and I will be marrying my fiancee in the not so distant future
