I have solved the magneto problem! The fix was a change to the aircraft.cfg file. Look for the "[piston_engine]" section and then look for the entry "auto_ignition=1" (it is about fifth from the bottom of the list). Change as follows:
[piston_engine]
auto_ignition=0 //was auto_ignition=1
Problems still remain, however. If you shut down the engines and feather them then restart, the plane will not move - you can set the throttle to full and nothing happens other than pissing off the noise abatement folks! I found you have to retsart using Ctrl-E, then E1234 to engage the throttles (for which there is no panel gauge) then she moves.
I have made some other modifications, such as adding NAV radios from the Avro Anson and a suitable period autopilot that I forget from whence it came (memory challenged). The panel has a autopilot button, but no means of engaging any modes. I also added a fuel selector. These are not required for the magneto fix above but I am a tinkerer and that sometimes results in disasters!
I kinda like this old girl I guess.
