After I landed the Trident, I tried DM's VC10, XX914/G-ATDJ (The RAE's own one) and it sort of managed it but it had quite a nose down attitude on approach and even after the flare still managedto touch down on the nose wheel first :redface: I think that presumably I was too fast and incorrectly trimmed, but since theres no equivalent Peter McL manual, it was a bit of a case of "well lets trying pressing this switch and coming in at this speed"! I think its possible that the VC10 actually needs a lower speed since its wing was optimised for short takeoffs and landings whereas the Trident wing is more a "low drag at cruise" design which is more of a handful at low speed. I do quite a few autolands in the VC10 and it works perfectly. Don't forget to click the V-chart to update it before taking the VaT speed. Then put the VaT speed into the autothrottle in plenty of time. And also remember to select 'flare' on the a/p mode switch at about 800 feet. Every landing a pitter-patter.

Toby - I've enjoyed following your autoland adventures in the Trident and VC10 and especially the videos. Before you move on to something else, I want to make sure you've done Peter's Trident tutorial at LHR in Cat IIIb visibility. It's called simply Trident Tutorial CatIIIb and starts on Rwy 09R and leads you through a circuit back to 09R. But of course the visibility is 100 metres so you are completely on instruments from lift off until you cross the threshold on landing. It's awesome and it's a fantastic feeling when (if?
) you see the runway lights. You may already have done it, but if not I think you'll really enjoy it
