Cheers Dave. I love it when they keep the blood flowing through their veins. Isn'nt the Kemble Brittania (XM496?) kept in a similar state?

I suppose the chance of them ever flying again is out of the question, especially as the runway has gone at Brooklands.

Do they still run up Canopus?

Eddie, even before the runway was removed, someone had been kind enough to build a road and grass verges with trees and lamposts about 2/3 way down its length and it was a short (but very wide) runway to start with.

Even though people have said how easily a VC10 or Super VC10 departed from that runway, its still not an ideal location being in the middle of suburban Surrey and we must also remember, many of these aircraft movements were made by the likes of Mutt Summers, Jock Bryce and Brian Trubshaw, hardly run-of-the-mill pilots

Totally correct Toby. The VC10 had a great deal of power available and they were (for the most part) unfitted out when they left for the short hop to Wisley.

Eddie, the Brit at Kemble is also a 'live' aircraft mate and she does do engine runs from time to time. Relatively recently, RR gifted them a new engine and fully functional GPU (although they already had a working GPU onsite). It's a bummer knowing they have two and the guys at Brooklands can't even get one

Garry.. as far as I'm aware, Canopus is still in taxi condition mate. Not had the opportunity to see her but I'm sure some of the guys here have  It's another thing on my 'things to do before you die' list!!

Canopus is still alive and well, and does the Brunters run every year. I've just been trying to find the website for the open days and it seems to be no more. Does anyone know if the open day is still planed for this year?

Ben..

According to the LPG site, their next open day is scheduled for 27 Aug 06. Of course, only the Lightnings are mentioned but I can't imagine they'll be the only ones active??

Any chance of a mini list knocked up and stickied of the classic 'live' British aircraft and when they are scheduled to run.

A sort of instant hit list without having to wade through all the other stuff going on.

Might prevent someone missing out because they didn't find all the information in one place easily.

Just a thought.

Hi Dave. The LPG boys where known to do their own runs on the odd weekend. I can't find any referance to the cold war jets collection at all!

I hope they haven't caned it as it was the highlight of my year.
