My first attempt went wrong because of her father interfeering all the time.

That really is ALL it comes down to in the end.

There are a few good ones out there, trouble is you don't know good from bad till its too late .

Marriage licenses should be like MOT's. They should run out after a year, then have her tested for roadworthyness before you're allowed to renew.
The ones that fail, having to have treatment before being passed as serviceable.

And if they fail then the option should alway be there to trade in for a newer model
