W E L L... I've had to buy something from them as I've let the last 3 releases slip by. Didn't want Phil thinking he'd done something wrong!!
Not noticed the HSI not working correctly as I never use it on anything like this. TWO gauges are all you need.. ASI and V/S

Slightly off topic.. I've seen Brian's Wessex at close quarters and this little tinker will get FAR more use than any Phantom be it Alpha or DSB. It goes as fast as I do and doesn't need 4 miles to slow down!!

If the "H" of the landing pad was four miles long I reckon I might manage to set a heli down on the right spot for once.... setting it down in one piece would then be the next challenge.

Any chance someone could post a screenshot of the Alphasim Phantom?

Toby, landing a heli is a piece of p%&s.............
Just hit the "Y" button on your keyboard to go into slew mode, then the "A" button to go down.
Don't know why people make such a fuss about it.

Steve, I dont know much Phantoms but those look the business to these untrained eyes  Anyone any thoughts on how this package compares to other ones currently available? Thanks for posting the screenshots.

Other Steve, @ the helicopter/slew mode comment, thats how I do half my 'flying' anyway, slewing around buildings I have created to check they look right

Too many Steves :madhead:

Toby,

I know b*gger all about Phantoms.

I've also got the Iris pack, which I prefer, despite the lack of a 2D panel. The problem that I have with the alphasim one is that there are no entries for the external fuel tanks in the aircraft cfg file, and as a consequence the range is crap. OK, I can add them, but couldn't alphasim have done it?

Both the Alphasim and the Iris Phantoms have a similar performance, but as I said above, I have no idea how accurate they are. Hopefully DB will expand on his comments above.

Having flown these beasts for quite a bit now, I cannot figure out why on earth in RL it was decided to replace the Lightning with them. :-#

Best wishes

Thanks Steve. As for why they were chosen to replace or at best 'augment' the Lightning force, I suppose it has a superior weapon carrying capability and maybe longer endurance with the drop tanks. Radar probably isnt bad either but I'd imagine out and out performance and manoevrability of the Lightning is better. Factor in the rather poor engine selection we made and the Lightning is probably way up. There was however an interesting idea suggested on another forum recently as to why re-engining Lightnings with Speys wasnt looked into as a way of reducing fuel consumption and increasing range.
