Back on subject, was the DVD info any use?TobyVickers wrote:A 17" flatscreen really doesnt take up that much space at all, thats what i am using now. And of course, being a flat panel, you can mount it or stand in spaces where you couldnt accommodate a CRT of the same screen size.

Tks Toby,
Sorry I hijacked your DVD Writer thread a little but like you, I have no idea what all these things mean. I've got 3 dvd writers here, all Liteon which means good value for money and decent spec. I couldn't tell you half of what they do but I can burn a cd and dvd on it so that's me sorted
Just had a look in 'My Computer' and it seems the one on this system (and the other 2) are Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-832S. I know they do DVD+ and DVD- (whatever that means) and cost around £30

Yes thanks, someone else told me basically the same thing. I'm searching on dabs and thats how they break them down
Got more serious probs at the moment though, installed a load of windows updates this morning (for the first time in ages) and have since suffered two BSODs and I have noticed that after rebooting the second time, I seem to have lost my internet history

Not sure I have system restore enabled... seem to remember turning it off ages ago as part of some spyware /virus removal procedure for something
It was all fine up until yesterday when i momentarily disabled my firewall and suddenly found all manner of crap being installed on my PC even though I didnt have any browser open at the time. After an hour of running all my anti spyware progs, downloading a specific removal tool and doing a quick virus check i decided it would be a good time to update to the latest Zone Alarm and maybe also install all teh latest Windows updates and security patches. To be fair, it then ran fine all day and its only been playing up this evening... could be running hot possibly or might even be down to a RAM problem, given the nature of one of the BSOD messages. (All three BOSD messages have been significantly different!)... anyway... tried removing one RAM module and moving the other to the correct bank
and running with part of the case open to try and keep it cool..so will see how it goes!

There's an answer to the noise problem Chris (not that I see it anyway).. turn the soddin volume up
I've been buying Liteon hardware for what seems like as long as my butt has pointed down and I have yet to have a failure. The only reason my older units aren't in use is that they've been upgraded!!

Chris/DaveG..
One crisp new AG Neovo F-417 TFT arrived today and despite me seeing an occassional feint line from time to time (on the plain windows screen), the display is really very good.. too good really just to be used for FSNavigator!
I was a bit miffed at the dotpitch seeming relatively high (no experience of tft's mind you).. but FSNav displays extremely sharp and is brighter than I could have imagined.
So impressed am I that I now see a good case for replacing the 19" Hansol (when the time comes) with a tft of equal size.
Many thanks to you both

I'll just send an open cheque mate and you can fill in the blanks!!
Btw.. the viewable area of the 17" tft is only 7mm short of the 19" CRT (I just checked with a tape measure) so it would be worthwhile replacing the CRT with a smaller TFT. Not a great deal impresses me these days but the AG certainly has
