My mistake. I think I was probably in the older one during the refurbishment and it was pretty grotty at the time.
As you say the new terminal is nice, very clean and light but I found it pretty uninspiring. It could be because I was bored, we arrived really early and then the flight home was delayed a couple of hours due to the bad weather in Italy. Worse the only English paper I found was the Independent which I hadn't seen for years, it was awful.
