Thanks too Gary for the Brabazon info. I'll check it out & will do a Google info search too. I live on the edge of the New Forest so I wonder if Hurn or Eastleigh were involved with the fly-by?

Hi Terry,

The Brabazon did visit London Airport on 15th June 1950 so it is quite possible it may have routed via your neck of the woods.

It also went to Farnborough air show in September of the same year......another possible time you may have seen it overfly where you live.

Thanks Brindon Bear. Farnborough!! I remember going with my twin brother & mother & have vivid memories of a crimson Hawker Hunter flying over the main runway, to be followed what seemed like 5 minutes later with a deafening roar & was there a sonic bang? One second it was a dot on the horizon & then Woosh it was gone. Neville Duke was the pilot & I've always wanted to be Neville Duke!! 1951 & I was 9 :roll:

I know it's not an airliner, but surely the Nimrod must have earned the Classic mantle by now, been in active service for how long?

Quite a long time. October 1969 apparently...

Well if the HS Nimrod isn't, the Hawker Nimrod is though...
