As if anyone here is surprised.. I voted 2D

I'll concede that certain aircraft work well with VC if you have TrackIR but like Keith, I have probs keeping my head still enough to grab switches with the mouse and TiR doesn't suit my style of flying (eg.. I slouch a lot)

No.. nowt beats a good 2D for me

Hi Eddie. - Al , Keith , all and Garry
I agree .. The "pic setup" is amazin , Al TrackIR , Keith 3 screens for veiws , Me ActiveC , thinks they u super ways to enjoy , that makes 3D different viewable formats , and Garry , I agree .. 2D's with very good 8 point veiws , in so many models SO well done .

There is no compeition for the persons eyes in what they see and enjoy , all formats are great , As mentioned B25 when released was one that turned me from 2d to V.. System requirements also dictate , We all cant spend moneys on some things but also it what part of FS that really increases , Al TrackIR .. tried first time at FSDemo , loved it .. and will get when have need .. my case FSX maybe ..

Keith .. Hell ..think u need to build a real plane type around that SETUP - been done that sorta thing before but not to what u could accomplish with that hardware setup .
I what a Ejector Seat .. they have 1 here for a Sea Vixen in Ashburton Museum , mmm , think may get that .. want that for my PCpilot seat .

So Vegas , 'Eddie' Stick with VC , Gary will this get his great Veiws 2d and I get Fav window after landin , the passenger feel

So much to try , So much to see

I CAN'T WAIT

Just pre submit this post DaveB put in a word- I use CHyoke and throttle
were required control switchs at figure tips , so another Dimension

Well I always use 2D panels 100% of the time in larger aircraft (i.e. DF 727, PMDG stuff) because the VCs in these aircraft murder framerates and don't look as good as a quality 2D panel anyway I think. But in smaller aircraft (DM's 1-11 or smaller, HS748 and all GA stuff) I use the VC, because it seems more useful in smaller aircraft and the examples I own have beautifully crafted and performing VCs. For GA, I think it is almost impossible to manage without a VC.

Rgr that Ian.

I tend to use this pc for flying all my 'stick' aircraft (which many of these also benefit from TiR) and my 'flying' pc for the more mundane/serious stuff. I have an old M$ PPro2 on this system where the other one is lavished with CHPro Yoke/Pedals/throttle, 3xGoFlight units and has the added bonus of dual monitors.
Believe it or not, I actually miss not seeing a VC these days when I'm flicking through views.. the wide open space of aircraft without one seem a little 'tame' now
More choice is never a bad thing and VC's give us a-n-other option

Unsurprisingly, I voted for 2D. I like the instant (well almost  ) availability of the 45 degree and side views when driving from the 2D cockpit and also the light level is usually better. I use VCs to look at the view when VFR flightseeing but I don't like the jerkiness of the instruments in most VCs.

It will be 2D for me until all VCs have gauge update rates like the Realair Spitfire XIV.

Brian W

PS: DB - I'm surprised you are still a 2D man after getting TrackIR

Tis true Brian. Good as TiR is, I still feel like a total herbert sitting here with a hat on and the reality is.. most of the aircraft I like to fly have great 2D panels anyway. THere is something about it which is odd and I'm not comfortable with. OK.. you can move your head and see around the cockpit but that is the odd thing. You would normally move your eyes so positionally, your head remains the same. Moving your head with TiR 'sort of' makes the entire cockpit move if you can understand what I mean. Certainly, its great for getting around VC's and a zillion times better than using a POV but 2D wins the day for exactly the reasons you've given

Btw.. the gauges in Ed's new baby do move in 'RealAir' fashion

Hi ya Dave ,
Thanx for word - ' my' this pc was only coms / store /test then go's to Flightsimpc , i like to hear/see what others have and maybe help , Took Jon Murchision to turn me into VC fan .. heck 4/5 years back

Brian , 'true' - think it did jump around , back when i did get the B25 .. recall that but put that down to noise and jumpin around thought was part off the real feel , agian that was when it was released , but on aproach smooth as when throttled back , the spitty FANTASTIC , head laitence and flow amazing in VC low level thru NZ .. Heath Wells 'Hamner to the Coast ' ...REALNZ! .. VC and active cam .. mother what a virtual ride , but again ...... COST!

So I think VC still in race ....

I prefer VC. but I have to go to 2D for some tasks,
as not all the commands are made available in VC.
The Hawker 748 and a few others (I think 3) however are
controlable from the VC mode most of the flight. So execpt for
a couple of times during the landing procedures.....
 I'm In my happy place
The most important thing to get out of your veiw of choice
of course is being able to control the plane and land in one peice.
whichever makes you happy. And of course
.........keeps your self and passengers alive
(We are "playing for real " ain't we  )
Eddie started a good post (hello eddie) in that the veried opinions will certainly
inspire the panel designers to create a more realistic, virtual
experience.
So untill then I'll make what ever I have, work.. I have no choice,

If I may add this one other persective on this subject "whats better"...
I'd like to quote the Late Dale Earnhardt. Nascars Stock car
7 time champion.while spotting his sons race (Dale Earnhardt JR) car
from high above the race track in the spotters tower.
Jr. was having some comfort issues with the car and was telling
his dad (SR.) about them complaining they
hampered his drivabilty.
"Son sometimes ya just have to shut up and drive the car"
he wasn't being mean to him or calling him a whimp
Just ................
take what you have and make it work for you.
and then back in the garage after the race is over
we'll see what we can do.....
secret is Sr wasn't ever satisfied either...... maybe thats what drove him to 7 chapionships acomplish by only one other Richard Petty

Have Fun, Joe

You have it in a nutshell about the VC movement

With the hat switch I am not scanning around a fixed window as in real life moving my eyes...it's the whole frame moving around and that I find unrealistic.

So things that in eye movement stay relitive to each other but slide around the vision in 3D movement an the whole lot is moving position in a sort of distorted way.

I actually find the 3D view movement unsettling.

I downloaded a nifty litle tool (I cant remember what its called & where I got it from) but it allows you to pan around the VC by clicking the mouse wheel.
Not as good as track IR but better then the hat switch. Also allows movement inside the VC well beyond the default viewpoint keyboard hotkeys.
