I suppose the word harmlessly is actually relative to whether you lived in Kent or not?

Well Kent was a lot less built up than London, so either way, chances are you'd still be saving lives by doing it. Even with conventional aircraft that were shot down, they all msut have crashed somewhere.

Thanks Toby
I take great pride in the fact that Tag sat on watched the whole thing on my knee in total awe - when the first aircraft appeared he said very clearly
Spitfire .....I should explain to newer folks my son has at 2 1/5 three Spitfires
suspended from his ceiling and a wall FULL of photographs taken by members
of the forum . It is a glorious movie and we can turn our eyes away from
some of the "technical" irregularities and sit back and enjoy RJs creation.
Again Thank you for sharing
(and yes I did get a little choked up - must be all the pollen here or something)

TobyVickers wrote:In a word, no, not like that. Hawker Tempests and Meteors did, but they didnt actually touch. You do it by disturbing the air pressures around the wingtips, causing the V1 to roll over thus upsetting its gyro and usually causing it to dive harmlessly into the countryside over Kent.
My first thoughts, also.
I've read several reports, none of which mention touching wingtips.
Let the vortex wake do the work for you.
Otherwise, an excellent video.
Cheers

It's a fitting tribute to a man who created an absolute icon, the one plane that more than any other I fly in FS and aspire to flying in real life!
