I just get a flat airfield matey! Don't say you still got the hole in the ground?????

Anyway, this 'un is a wee bit short,you have to fly a curved final to miss the high ground,but it can be done no trickery :smile:

Im impressed Pete - you found it - and that little hill on final -
if you get too low you lose the airfield completely - you using
standard FS scenery there ? I have the Alabama VFR scenery and
its make it look a little moer scary - it would be nice it the
Hunstville Skydivers AN2 was sitting on the grass

Did you get in and out???

If so i owe you a beer

In and out,couple of G/A's to start to get the final app path sorted,then straight (well, actually curved :lol: ) in. T/O no probs 15 flap, wet,
just got to mind the trees!

you know Im not sure where it came from its a two piece ALabama mesh that
really improves the topography and the locations of alot of GA fields I have it
on DVR I'll find it and uplodd it to Robs (happyotters site) if you wish
I spent alot of time when I first came to the States flying the area from North Atlanta northwest to Athens Tenn (home of the Swift club) west to Smyrna Tenn and South to HSV and BHM east to Gadsden and NE again to Atlanta
-It s beautiful area to fly (especially at 500 feet in Summer in a J3 with the door open). Loaded with little grass strips with interesting residents
- One of the nicer is just south of Gadsden on The Tenn river where and old
boy has a grass strip that paralells the river a dock for float planes - a well
stoicked fridge in the hangar with some of the best lemonade - the finest paintbooth I have ever seen (homemade) and a Hangar full of Stampe's and Stampe parts -- ah memories

TobyVickers-In 1967 I and my fiancee(still married) flew to Sandown from East Mids on a scheduled British Midland DC3(G-ANTD- how sad is that?).because we had to travel on a Sunday the train journey wouldhave taken 8 hours due to engineering works and the cost was only slightly more than the train.We had to return from Eastleigh but only as far as BHX due to weather and an aircraft fault.The total return time was about 7 hours!.Can't remember the reg of the return aircraft.Somewhere I still have some piccies taken on that flight on slides on my Kodak Instamatic.OK stop laughing.The point I am making is that BMA did a summer schedule into Sandown.By now you will have worked that I am over 30 years old.Best Wishes EricT :hi:

Found what I have been looking for

1959 Summer

Channel Airways flew a Portsmouth-Sandown twice a day early and late to allow a day trip to the I.o.W.

The given type was Dakota but it is possible that some services were operated by Doves or Dragon Rapide.
