Maybe Andy G can shed some light on it when he attacks repaints in full!
Could it be something to do with dynamic shine built into the model or in the case of the B2 not??
Some models natually shine more than others where as some won't take a shine, the alpha just making it tramsparent.
I know nothing about the models except they do vary in the way they take shine.
Just thinking here it may not be a painting thing.

Garry,
I'm waiting for Steve to finish the .psd and send it over to me. When I've got it in my hot little paws I'll be able to see if this is an alpha issue, or a model issue; if it's alpha-related thats easy enough to sort out, if model-related it will be a bit trickier, but probably not insurmountable. Still, looks like I have some free time on my hands this weekend, now DG's had to delay the Hunter
Thanks for the ideas Gents, I think you both may be onto something there. Last night I applied a natural metal finish to it and it exposed even more issues with the built-in shine. As I have never messed with alpha channels yet, I am not sure what to look for, but Andy can probably sort that out. I don't think it's a painting thing now as Garry hints at...especially as the B.2 had no problems.
Andy, I'll do my best to get you that psd so you can play with it...I'm taking a break from this sucker for a while!
Cheers all,
Steve
UPDATE--
I just got the bear repaint basics done, and will send the psd files to you tomorrow Andy. Here's how a bare metal version looks minus totally accurate stencil markings etc which Andy and co. will provide...
Well, since my last post, I've added alpha channels to the textures and it just made the surfaces transparent as Garry estimated. My research on this tells me that this is controlled by the modeller in GMAX, so that might explain the lack of 'natural' or built-in shine on the model from day-one. I've emailed Paul Foster to have him enable this feature (if possible), but until then, or unless Andy G can figure it out, we're stuck in matte-flat land...

Good try indeed, but the news from Paul is that there were no alphas included at the time of release, although he will work to add them after he finishes with the Shackleton he's working on. Until then, we can either 'fake them' with treatments in Photoshop, or just leave everything matte finish. I think I'll do the latter with non-metallic repaints, but we'll see.
Anyway, I think off FS for a bit as my wife is about to go into labour by the signs of it!
