This was borne out when said presenter was on a talk show (or QI ??) and he admitted that they had great difficulty in making the three wheeler unstable enough to roll. IIRC the production staff disconnected the suspension on one side and loaded weights on the same side and even then they had several takes before the car finally gave in and they got the 'proof' that three wheelers are/were dangerous. Personally I always fancied the Bond Bug but a wife and family soon killed that off. Maybe now I've got one foot in the grave I could have one? "No, of course not, I was only joking dear... honestly..."

Way back in 74/75 I used to hang around at a local pub that had been taken over by bikers. We had our own room with a pin ball table, Foosball table (that we had modified to take more balls) and a juke box filled with records that we had bought and put on there. On any night you would find 20-30 motorcycles parked outside and we had some great times there.

One of the guys bought a Bond Bug so that he could take his 250cc Kwacker triple off the road for the winter. He was a tall guy so it was quite a squeeze to get into it but he managed it and had a lot of fun in it that winter. It was faster than the Reliant Supervans of the time but had almost no space to carry anything especially if you were two-up.

I remember watching the video the first time, knowing full well the baboon was deliberately rolling it, and if you treat it respect you would be ok. But for a three wheeler with the single wheel in front and the engine over that wheel, you have to give it more respect that just about any other vehicle. There is a good reason why more modern three wheelers have the single wheel in the rear.

I believe that the original picture posted is of a caravan conversion of the original Reliant 3 wheeler van. This had a motorcycle front wheel and handlebars to steer, had a 747cc sidevalve Austin 7 engine, and was made from the mid 1930s to about 1952

Chris, several of the lines match the Reliant, and the wheels are also the same pattern.
